Adorable writer's cottage near lake & public dock, 100 yards to Burke Gilman Bicycle Trail, stunning & magical neighborhood Sheridan Beach of Lake Forest Park. BBQ, back yard, trampoline, 1 block from city hall, library, bakery, gym, grocer & more.

The space

Beautiful little cottage originally built as vacation cottage in 1940. Quiet, stunning street near Lake Washington (one block down paved trail to public park with dock and swimming).

Lovely main bedroom with drawers for your clothing, and a smaller bedroom with a full sized futon bed (new mattress 2016), desk, and dresser. A fourth person can easily share futon bed, or in the living room on the couch.

Simple bathroom with full tub and shower.

Wide beautiful front porch with a swing, chair and sofa for enjoying beautiful nights outside.

Our beautiful little cottage is only one block from the town center where City Hall resides, and a bakery, the local library, bookstore, restaurants, the Chocolate Man store, grocery, pharmacy, jewelry and gifts, hair dresser, dance studio, clothing store and hardware store. Everything you need is one block away. A grocery with multitudes of local food and organic produce is 2 miles up the hill. Walks are gorgeous in every direction. You can take the bike trail north to Bothell and Woodinville, or south right into the city next to the University of Washington (many people commute to the U.of W. via bicycle from Lake Forest Park). There is one lovely AC bus with wifi that leaves every 30 minutes to downtown Seattle from the corner one block away. Easy access to everything, in a quiet north part of Seattle. A gorgeous place to spend time in Seattle.

Two bicycles available upon request for your use while here. For the right people, Toyota Echo also available for small additional rental fee, if you have your own insurance.

Guest access

You will have the place 100% to yourselves as we are traveling during this time. Neighbors will know you are visiting (and they are superbly helpful and friendly). Wi-fi is great. Please note: there is no television (we watch netflix). We also have a huge olympic sized trampoline in the back yard.

Interaction with guests

You'll be able to email us at any time, even while we travel. In case of any emergencies, we have a local contact family member (also an AirBnB member) who has agreed to help out.

Other things to note

You have full access to a big kitchen well-stocked with cooking utensils of every kind, a huge outdoor barbecue, a big fridge and bright skylights overhead. Some food items will be left in cupboards but we'll make room for your food and grocery items, and leave the fridge clean and open for you. The kitchen has a huge amount of plates, cutlery and all you need to entertain friends if you like, plus a dishwasher and garbage disposal. Everything has been updated and in good condition.

House Rules

Please no pets--we are not pet friendly and one person who lives here is allergic to animal hair (dogs and cats) and it will be very difficult if any animals stay here while we are away. This goes for smoking too--absolutely no smoking anywhere near the premises please. Our neighborhood is friendly and very quiet. Many people walk right in front of our cottage to access the beautiful trail. We would appreciate no loud music or late (loud) guests outside. Plenty of parking right in front of the cottage, and in the driveway immediately next to our front porch.

Grace had previously planned a trip out of town for the interval I would be staying at her cottage, so I was unable to meet her in person. That turned out not to be a hindrance. She welcomed me graciously to the cottage via e-mail, and I responded via e-mail with a brief description of my travel plans from Los Angeles to Seattle and my pleasure to have use of her cottage for the stay in Seattle. I arrived after dark and sent a quick e-mail letting her know I had arrived. She had made the place tidy and inviting, and she had left an excellent summary providing complete details and directions necessary for learning the house operation - the information helpful in learning the house and its surrounding community. Her preparations added meaning to the term "Host." The cottage was as described and exactly met my needs. Her preparations and subsequent communications made it easy to feel at home almost immediately.

Perfect little cottage for our quick and busy trip to the Seattle area! Grace was not around to greet us, but that worked out just fine as she left great instructions and local contacts, just in case. The location was convenient to our plans in the Lake City area and it was great to be right across the street from Lake Forrest Park shopping center. The cottage was quaint but very comfortable and fit the four of us adults quite well. With three cars we were a bit tight but it was definitely manageable. Watching the bunnies chomp on clover in the back yard in the morning, certainly added to the charm and peacefulness of the place. An overall pleasant and recommended place to stay!

My husband and I stayed at the Goldilocks Cottage while we were visiting Seattle for a little vacation before we had our first child. We were looking for something comfortable and quiet where we could enjoy the city, but also retreat from it when we needed to. This cottage fit the bill. We really enjoyed our trip and out time at the cottage. If you are looking for a hotel-like space, this may not be the place for you. It is more like staying in a friend or family member's house while they are out of town. That said, there are plenty of drawers and places for your things. It is clean and comfortable, just not sterile and empty. It is a cozy, lived in space. We liked that there wasn't a TV because the point of our trip was to spend time connecting without distractions. However, if time in front of the big screen is important, this may not be the place for you. We enjoyed exploring the trails and parks close to the house. It was easy to get around, and we had everything that we needed. The cottage is exactly as pictured and described. Grace and Jon were always responsive and kind. We also enjoyed the trampoline in the backyard. Even I couldn't resist holding my belly and taking a few bounces. Recommended!
