The space

At the end of a beautiful mountain, among vineyards and lots of olive trees, is a sleepy village called Orino, close to Ierapetra and Sitia in Crete.

It is a small house, one floor plus roof, with window to the sea and a lot of freedom and joy. The house is 120 years old, stone cretan traditional style. It has 2,5 rooms, a bathroom and 2 kitchens, one inside the house and one outside for cooking and barbecue.

The village has 172 residents, 620 sheep, 380 goats, dogs and cats about 80. There is a mini market for your basic needs and a traditional cafe (kafeneio) where you can enjoy coffe and the traditional drink of Crete, raki. A car is passing by everyday, providing residents with fish, meat, bread and vegetables. A supermarket at your place!

Southeast part, between Ierapetra and Sitia, the wild area. For rent from the owners who are staying there for years. You will have a great, peaceful stay, in the beautiful mountains of Crete, hosted by the hospitality of Cretans! Welcome

Beautiful and peaceful place. Perfect to escape to the crowds on the coast and to explore the region. Nikos, the neighbor who takes care of the house and welcomes you is a really nice guy. I would go back anytime!

Amazing place, full of taste and soul. Magical view, nikkos the neighboor is a wonderful person. The village is really lovely, the region very attractive. We could not dream of a better place to stay in creta, and can't wait to visit the future farm udi and nikkos are planning to set up. Really, this place is just so paradisiac. Words are not enough to describe the experience of it, just go there!!

A beautifully renovated old house in a mountain village. It could not be a better place to spend a week in the paradise of Crete. The house was thoughtfully prepared for us. It was a comfortable place to return after hiking in the hills surrounding the place. Yehuda's friend Nikkos was very kind to us. His advice and endless care made a world of difference during our stay in the village. It was a quiet and beautiful place with views of the gorge from the living room, sounds of crickets and smell of the herbs at night. The sea was only 15 minutes away and the mountain road led to stunning views of mountains around us. It was a very happy week at Yehuda's house and we highly recommend the place.

A truly unique experience. The house sits at theta of the Butterfly Gorge in a serene setting and Nickkos made us feel welcomed and became a wonderful friend. He came every morning with a gift of local food and wonderful stories. We enjoyed the local hikes and the beaches and Tavernas. As far as we could tell this was one of the best accommodations in the area if you want a special experience. We found the drive up the mountain to be a little scary but by the end of our week we both felt it was well worth it.

A very nice house with a brilliant view down the gorge. We liked it very much, enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, the friendly little village and the gentle and helpful neighbour Nikkos. And yes, we miss the sound of the bees and birds, the smell of herbs now. Hope to come back again one day!

Yehuda’s house was just perfect for the kind of holiday we had in mind. Being in the mountains meant it was just a little cooler than the coast but also really only a short drive to reach the sea for swimming and more choices of places to eat. We had the ideal mix of very quiet village life and spending time by the water. Yehuda himself was so helpful, providing us with simple and clear directions from the airport where we had hired a car. He arranged very easy access to the house, introduced us to the good people of the village (Nicoletta from the cafe and Nikkos and his daughter from next door) and was available immediately online with any other information we needed about the house and the surrounding area. A great host! The house itself is so sweet. Basic in the best possible way with it’s own unique feel. All facilities work brilliantly and we were very peaceful and comfortable. We found the village and surrounding area, the mountain roads, the views and pace of life charming and utterly rejuvenating. We can honestly say it was a very special holiday and we plan to return next summer. Esther and Jonnie

We spent the last week of may in the Stone House and loved every moment of it! Neighbour Nicos (who is the host when Yehuda is not there) and his mother were the most perfect hosts! The stone house is a more then pleasant place to stay; the village, the house, the views, everything ouses out a very beautifull back to basic feeling and rest, with being discomfortable! I love to go back there anytime . . even when the sun is not shining!
