Explore the best that Portland has to offer from this incredibly cool, centrally located apartment in an old Victorian home in the Kerns neighborhood. 10 minute bike ride (our bikes!) to downtown, Alberta Arts, Hawthorne, Mt. Tabor, and more!

The space

Enjoy the quintessential Portland experience in this spacious two-bedroom apartment in a big old Victorian style house in the Kerns neighborhood of NE. The dwelling is quiet and super comfortable. (Interior pics will be available within days - we are currently converting from a long term rental to an Airbnb, and it will be set up by the middle of June). Enjoy a great night's sleep on our new, Sealy, plush queen sized mattresses! The Sofa opens into a full sized mattress. For a sixth guest, we can provide an extra mattress to go on the floor.

The house has a side patio with a table and grill that guests are welcome to use.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire second floor apartment of the house.

Interaction with guests

Your hosts live very close to the apartment, and are available to assist you with most of your needs.

Other things to note

We have at least two bicycles available for you to use. Portland is an extremely bike friendly city! Maybe you would like a guided bicycle tour of Portland. Starting this summer (2016), I will be offering tours for an additional fee. Among the tours offered will be: Portland Bridges, Portland History, Portland Parks, and more. When booking, let me know if you are interested!

Planned a last minute trip to Portland and I couldn't have stumbled across a better location. Coming from Denver, a city that I truly love, I have found so much joy in exploring the neighborhoods beyond typical tourist traps but I also love tourist traps! This gave us the best of both worlds! We took a quick Lyft downtown, ran around to all the various signs, shops, and bridges of interest and then lifted back to this neighborhood and hung out in a few of the places Rand recommended all within walking distance of his place! Woke up to some delicious bagels from a local bagel shop and walked to the train to get to the airport the next day. The place was clean and comfortable for all four of us and so cute! Plus there is a brewery and cidery right across the street. I highly recommend Rand's spot!

Rand was very quick to respond with check in information and to booking modifications before the trip. We arrived to a handwritten welcome note on the blackboard, which was nice! The place is well set up for visitors new to Portland, with local information available in the entrance way. There was also a binder with additional info on things in the house. Checking in and out was straightforward and made it easy for us to arrive/leave separately. A couple of us had a little difficulty finding the place - it's on the north side of the street. However, Rand sent a message to check if we'd arrived okay as well as a reminder with checkout information before we left. The place is close to bus routes and MAX, and walking/biking distance from the convention centre, many restaurants, and grocery stores. There was space for the four of us staying for a conference, as well as a spare set of keys. The sofa bed that I had was very comfortable and the house gets plenty of natural light. It is close to businesses that have traffic in the early mornings, which I think was the only problem most of my group had. Taking ear plugs might be a good idea (particularly in summer when the windows are open). The kitchen had good cooking facilities. The can opener is an old fashioned one, in case this affects what you plan to cook. If you head into the basement, the light switch is on the ceiling by the door. Having access to the bikes with locks and helmets is great as Portland is very bike-friendly. There's a pump so make sure your tyres are full before you get the bike up the stairs. The washing machine was nice in theory, but be careful of the settings to avoid damaging clothes! I'd also suggest taking quarters as there may not be any available. We enjoyed staying at Rand's place and I think it's a very affordable and convenient option for conferences or groups who want to spend time in downtown Portland. We unfortunately didn't have much time to check out the rest of the surroundings, though I had the impression there is a lot to do nearby. Rand was a thoughtful host, and though we only communicated by text/email, he made it clear he was available if we had questions or problems.

I stayed here while at a conference for an entire week and split it with a coworker. It was the first time I went for organizing my own stay somewhere rather than just taking the easy (but $$$) conference hotel option and I HIGHLY recommend airbnb options for work stays! We had a lovely time with no issues at all - Rand was very nice, communicative, and accommodating. There's plenty of space to hang out alone/get work done without being sequestered to one's bedroom, with the kitchen and sitting room both having comfortable places to relax or use a laptop. It was easy to get around by busses or walking and more to eat & drink within a half mile than I had time to experience! The beds were SO comfy, a must for work trips where you can't bend the schedule just to get a good night of sleep. I'd certainly stay here again on vacation since my first trip to Portland has me wanting to come back soon!

First visit to Portland with a 4 and 9 year old. Location is great, short walk to a mall, restaurants and cinema. We easily could find a parking spot right in front of the house at the end of the day. House is clean and for our family of 5 there was enough space for all of us.
