Fergie and Rebecca were helpful in the beginning. Fergie took me from the airport for 100 US and he tried a lot to make myself comfortable in his house. It's in a lovely surrounding in a small hill community next to the cemetry. It's a retreat where you enjoy nature & local evenings. You reach the house from town by arround 30' footwalk which includes a adventurous way through the cemetry with goats and dogs; no problem, neither by night! This is the place to stay for you if you're looking for real local life, living here means you enjoy to talk with people that drop in or also with Fergie or his brother who live here. We had some nice meals and good talks. Sadly we had some serious issues with the rental. Not as indicated the water fell out regularly not to say daily (for example while having a shower or while cooking) which was pretty annoying. Even though I know Jamaica's having a drought right now I wasn't happy with the situation I had to shower with buckets more times than having normal showers. Another issue was the internet: it works sometimes, mostly it is very weak and slow, hardly enough to load your online banking profile or similar stuff. The biggest serious issue is Fergie himself in my opinion. Because I and my friend came here for work, it was very (!!) important for us to have space and privacy, which was promised to us before by Rebecca (his partner, living in the UK) that's why we booked a "2 bedroom apartment" which was promised by Rebecca to "have the whole floor for ourselves". But this was not the case: We would be living in a shared-house with shared kitchen and everything's pretty under construction except of two bedrooms, which weren't even ready by my arrival. This is not even the end of the story: even we were promised to have the "apartment" for ourselves there were lots of people around, dropping in all the time and walking through the apartment and have dinner here (friends of Fergie) and I normally met people in "my apartment" without really knowing when or who they are. In fact, the "apartment" is NOT an apartment but a private room in a shared living-house which is really alive with Fergie and his brother and lots of their visitors, better you put the name on things in the fridge you don't wanna share. Sadly I haven't seen Rebecca during all the time to find a solution but anyway when I told Fergie that I booked privacy and NOT shared living he totally freaked out, got rude and shouted at me really badly (e.g. I need to go to a therapist). The end of the story was that he kicked me out and I had 7 hours to finde a new place, he even threatened me he will lock me out, it was VERY stressful and also frightening for me. Never again!

Fergie's spot is a true find. Completely separate from the world, this is truly a 'retreat' in every sense of the word. The room and veranda are beautiful and relaxing, and although the rest of the house is unfinished, it has a particular charm and it will be lovely once finished. It was always an adventure getting to and from the house, as you have to climb through a hilly Jamaican graveyard to get to town! That graveyard quickly became one of my most favorite places during this entire trip.

Response from Fergie:
Some areas of our place are under improvement, but are not currently offered to accommodate guests, we are open and honest and offer guests to see everything, nothing is hidden. The apartment allocated to Dan during his stay is finished to a high standard. It is a retreat and it's environment is peaceful and beautiful. There are several routes to access the property, the cemetery is the one favored by locals and one I recommend for the experience. Dan did seem to appreciate the views and greenery surrounding the place.

If you love nature, want to get to know the local way of life and like to be stunned by the amount of stars you can see while standing on your balcoy then this is place to go! This accomodation is clean, very spacy, save, nice people around you and a true gift to get to know about the local life of Jamaica. Its a bit outside of Port Antonio but buses to town, go on and of not far from the house. For a bit extra Fergie was able show me all the great places that this area has to offer, which made the trip even better. I was there for 3 days, def. to short to see everything! So next time when i do come back i know which part of Jamaica i need to visit again! Thanks!

Location in the hills, be prepared to leave the heart of Port Antonio. Relaxing, but not always water running so be prepared for that. Fergie is a nice guy and does his best to make you feel welcome, though for a place that doesn't have guaranteed water I think the price is a little steep. Still I enjoyed my stay in Port Antonio...

Response from Fergie:
We absolutely have running water same as anywhere else, however there was a temporary outage on the Thursday throughout the whole of Port Antonio for works by the water commission which was aired on the radio. We feel disappointed we were unable to communicate this at the time as we were not aware until afterwards, but we have water tanks as back up for outages. Some areas of our place are under improvement for the future enjoyment of guests, but are not currently offered to accommodate guests. The apartment allocated to Chris during his stay is finished to a high standard with a 300sq ft bedroom with private en suite bathroom, lounge and veranda. The size and high standard finish of this accommodation is very good value for money compared to single en suite rooms in town. His friend visited and although not expected, we accommodated him in another room free of charge. We do not claim to be in the centre of town, we are a retreat located only 15mins walk from the heart of town which is not for everyone, but shown in the many photos on our listing. The location and surrounding landscapes create a peaceful and relaxing environment with privacy for our guests who appreciate nature, beautiful views and who want to be near town, but not in town day and night. The roads in Jamaica are notorious for being a bit tricky and any road that is off the main road is unlikely to be smooth. We recommend asking for advice and guidance if in doubt of directions before walking off on ones own. Questions are welcomed prior to booking and we will always do our up most to accommodate guests needs.

We have travelled around a bit, but we have put down roots by building a home in Jamaica. We invite you to stay in our little piece of paradise. We love travelling and experiencing new things, both currently working abroad. We enjoy the outdoors, a nice view, warm breeze and the simple things in life. We couldn't do without eachother and value family and friends above all else :-)
