About this listing

Privacy on secluded hillside above beautiful Playa Maderas. Watch the sunset over the Pacific from open air living room, dining deck or master bedroom veranda. Walk to yoga, surfing, restaurants and more. 6 miles to lively San Juan del Sur shopping and nightlife. Newly upgraded in 2016 solar power is excellent, but please remember to conserve electricity. Additionally, like many roads in Nica, our's is dirt and a 4WD is preferable.

The space

The open air concept and breathtaking views at Seahorse House make it the perfect destination for those looking to get away. The living room provides plenty of comfortable seating and the kitchen/pantry is fully stocked with everything you would need to entertain. Have dinner and play games at the big table on the south deck. Beat the mid-day heat on the shaded breezy veranda off the master bedroom. The two bathrooms are both large and are stocked with clean towels. Enjoy nature's soundtrack of song birds and howler monkeys, or bring your own playlist for the house stereo system.

The two bedrooms each have a queen bed with fresh linens. Both have plenty of storage space and en suite bathrooms.

There is a deck to one side of the house which is great for eating dinner or relaxing after a day at the beach. The master bedroom has a wrap-around veranda with seating and two hammocks.

Guest access

Seahorse House is rented to only one set of guests at a time who have exclusive use of the private residence. The rental space includes the entire second floor and all decks. Please respect the privacy of the 24 hour security guard/ gardener who resides on the first floor. Guests may use the outdoor shower at the home's entrance and eat fresh papaya fruit growing in the yard.

Interaction with guests

Property manager will greet guests with keys upon arrival and be available during stay. A cleaning service visits midweek with fresh linen, additional drinking water and removes garbage. The friendly and helpful security guard/ gardener has worked at Seahorse House for years. He is a local and speaks only spanish. He is very patient with guests asking questions using the house dictionary or an online translator.

Other things to note

The eco-friendly house runs off solar power. Typically we find the solar system provides plenty of electric for daily needs including lights, fans, stereo, refrigerator and device charging. The onsite gardener/security guard will be happy to run our generator for guests requiring above average electric usage.

The Seahorse House was amazing! It was incredible being able to wake up every day and go to bed every night with such a breathtaking view. The house itself had everything we needed - big spacious bathrooms and bedrooms, plenty of bath and beach towels and lots of supplies in the kitchen. The wi-fi was strong and the porch was incredible for meals, games and star-gazing. Samuel was really helpful in setting up everything for us, answering all the questions that we had and giving us great advice on what to do while we were in Nica! I would highly recommend the Seahorse House as a great spot to get away and enjoy rest, relaxation and lots of sun.

I had a great stay at the Seahorse house! Samuel was very helpful and timely with any questions we had. Great WiFi, plenty of towels and many other amenities! We had a 4x4 truck which was great for our time here. The Seahorse house is the perfect place to stay for plenty of sun, surf and relaxation! I would definitely rent again and recommend to friends!

High up on the hill with grand, sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding villages and countryside, the Seahorse house is a much better option than the surrounding resorts and hostels. The open air concept is literally so cool, throughout the day the house buffers but doesn't diminish the cooling breezes. To be able to see an almost completely unobstructed view of the monkeys in the trees playing in front of the Pacific Ocean backdrop while sipping on your morning coffee or afternoon rum y calala (passion fruit), is about as relaxing as it gets. The house is tastefully decorated, well furnished, has strong wifi in the off chance you must connect to the rest of the world, outdoor showers, great stereo system for those late night dance parties, full cookware and dish setup for dinner parties, bug nets over the beds. Honestly Sam has thought about everything in making the Seahorse House a destination itself, or a hub for adventures throughout the area. I'm not much of a surfer but was with several solid surfers, and they rave about Playa Maderas and the conditions. I enjoyed the roughly dollar Tona's and amazing ceviche at the Sunset Beach Bar while watching my friends rip left and rights all day. In addition to the house and locale, if you're lucky enough to have the host Sam around at all, you'll have a wealth of knowledge and resources included in your stay. His connections at Hulakai, a small hotel with an amazing pool and food options, his friendships with the local surf shacks for a busted fin or board, or getting hooked up on a catamaran cruise out of San Juan Del Sur, are all invaluable resources that are tough to find without him. Want to go to Nicaragua? Seahorse House. Want to keep costs down? Seahorse House. Want to have a great time? Seahorse House. Thanks Same for all you do, can't wait to come back.

Sam and Korina have thought of everything when it comes to being hosts! Seahorse house is fully equipped from bedding to kitchen appliances (even a juicer and a magic bullet). Not to mention great stero for dancing and a big beautiful table on the deck for family style meals. They even have sun blocker sails on the deck so you can enjoy the view and take shade during the hot afternoons.

5 stars! I highly recommend staying at the Seahorse house at Playa Mederas! my friend and i went for a surf trip for 8 days and had an amazing time, we rent our own 4x4 truck and drove in from managua, which was easy with Sam's directions, he had beer and Flor de cana waiting for us and gave us the low down on all the stuff to do and where and when to surf. Having our own private house was soooo much better than a hotel and the view and accomedations were amazing as well. cant wait to go back!

We had the best time at the seahorse house. The open air concept and location allowed us to do yoga every morning at the casa maderas, surf everyday at playa maderas, see mini toucans, howler monkeys, and hear the wind. The temps were perfect this time of year and the atmosphere was so chill. Sam was in Nicaragua while we were there and greeted us and gave us the full house tour. I will be back with my family for sure!

I'm a 38, live in New England. Enjoy travel, fitness and the outdoors. I love music, sailing, surfing, family and living well. Since I am such a "beach person" I find myself in Central America during the long New England winter. Have a look at my Nicaragua guesthouse's website:
