About this listing

ALBERTA BASECAMP is a modern retreat in the heart of NE Portland, one block off famed Alberta St., known for its funky shops, galleries, restaurants and bars. We are close to Kennedy School, Tiny House Hotel, and about 6 miles to downtown Portland.

The space

ALBERTA BASECAMP is a 2-bedroom/1-bath modern basement apartment located below a 1915 Portland Craftsman house. The space is completely separated from the host's living quarters with a private entrance. Each bedroom is well-equipped with a queen-sized bed. Our keyless entry system makes checking in and out a breeze with no key exchange required. For you late check in folks, this is the way to go! The secured bedroom door locks (also keyless entry) will allow you to store valuables without worry and feel safe at night. Please note that both bedrooms are rented out on AirBnB.

Guest access

Our guests have access to the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and outside patio. We have a total of two listings on AirBnB so these areas are shared with our other bedroom guests. Laundry is available without charge.

Interaction with guests

With its separate entry door, you’ll find it convenient to come and go as you please without disturbing the hosts. However, if there's ever a need to contact us or ask for suggestions we'll be happy to help. After all, we're only upstairs from you!

Other things to note

Please note that the height of the basement apartment is 6'8". Consider this if you are very tall. Otherwise you won't really notice. Also, there are 5 steps into the basement apartment so ALBERTA BASECAMP is not handicap accessible.

Great place! Awesome location, very clean, and easy to check-in. Never met them but they wrote a little note for when we came in. Would definitely stay here again!

Great little place. Super clean, great location close to everything you need and very eccentric neighborhood feel with great little breakfast places.

I had a very wonderful stay here. Everything I needed for a comfortable and great stay was provided. The room was very clean and getting in and out was very easy with the door pin code. The location was optimal, located within walking distance to highly rated food restaurants. Paul & Alisa was quick to respond and were terrific hosts! Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend to others!

Walking in, it was very lovely and inviting. Until I realized I'd be sharing a bathroom and a very small basement with two other strangers. I didn't think this was appropriate. I could also hear just about every single thing that went on in the house above me (the dog lol) as well as the couple beside my husband and I, so if you needed to use the restroom rather quickly and someone was in there, you're screwed. In the closest room to the bathroom there's a very loud pipe as well. Sounds like an old man going pee right in your ear. You can very clearly see it above the dresser. It would go on for about 20 minutes every night. On the upside, it is very clean and tidy. It's very modern looking. I had everything I needed from shower soap to make up wipes. You could also use the washer and dryer which I thought was cool. This place is nice if you're booking with friends or don't mind small amounts of privacy and are just there for a few days. All in all we had a positive experience. The other couple didn't bother us. But again, if you want privacy, this place is NOT for you.

Response from Paul & Alisa:
It's very clear in our listing that our listing is a shared space so we aren't sure why Renee was surprised by this. If privacy was a big concern then it would have been appropriate for her to book an "entire place" rather than a "private room" but of course that would cost more.

Place is located in suburban area of Portland. Takes around 30 minutes to get to downtown Portland. Super close from the PDX (use uber, it costs 13 bucks). Place is clean. Kitchen is not available for cooking. There are fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker that you can use. Check in is super easy!

Paul and Alisa are originally from Los Angeles but moved to Portland in 2012. We absolutely love our new hometown and want to share our enthusiasm with everyone who comes for a visit. Paul is a physical therapist who loves the great outdoors and good beer (hence the move to Portland) and Alisa is an administrative assistant at Oregon Health Science University and a lover of all things Netflix.
