My beautiful 1927 cottage with hardwood floors throughout is small town Americana at its best. Stroll to the movies, dinner, or a tavern. On I-90 minutes from Billings and 45 miles to Red Lodge's skiing and hiking. Self catering. Sleeps up to 8.

The space

Room 3 is a snug mini suite! The queen sized bed with a handsome brown lacquered headboard with bronze and brass accents takes up most of the floor space, but what you give up in the bedroom, you regain in a lovely private half bath. Additionally you will find a clothes rod, luggage stand, antique chair, antique mirror and a charming electric stove. The stove may be used simply as a nightlight, or it will provide heat at the flip of a switch. Built in 1927 by a local railroad employee, Laurel Ties has it's roots, literally, in railroad history. While the basement of the home was hand dug by local boys, support timbers for the home are actual railroad bridge timbers. The 20's were a time of change, reflected in its architecture. Original cast iron gilded light fixtures, crystal glass door knobs, rich colors and hardwood floors of my home show the craftsmanship and style of the era. While updating I tried to find vintage style fixtures and furnishings to keep the feeling strong. It's three bedrooms and 1.5 baths comfortably fit 6 people, 8 if a couple want to bunk in the living room.

Guest access

In addition to a private bedroom, guests have a shared kitchen, living room and bathroom. The shared fenced back yard with cement patio is a great place for warm summer evenings. The stairs to the attic as well as the attic itself are off limits, as is the basement. Any bedroom not your own is also off limits, as well as the garage/carriage house in back and the VW beetle parked on the patio.

Interaction with guests

I love Montana and am excited to share what I know with you. From shopping to hiking, camping and fishing, I probably have a suggestion for you. Or if you want to sit and visit, play music and share stories, I'm up for that too. I live a short drive away, but work in town and will pop in to check on how you are getting along and tend to the house, but I will respect your privacy.

Other things to note

There is a blow dryer in the bathroom and an iron and ironing board in the mud room. A free, one time visit per registered guest to a local fitness center is available on request.

Very clean, very comfortable. Jennifer was warm and welcoming. The house is just beautiful. I like older houses (my wife's and mine was build in 1902). It's obvious that Jennifer has put in a lot of effort to make her home look accurate for its period. The bed and common areas are clean and nicely furnished.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Jennifer's charming house and appreciated the large fenced-in area for our dog. The room was comfortable, the living room spacious, and the kitchen well-organized and -stocked. Jennifer is very friendly and informative - gave us lots of ideas for places to run, things to see, etc., even though our stay was very short. We would love to come back and highly recommend her place.

Great place, comfy bed, super clean, and treats for humans on the counter! Jennifer was communicative and quick to respond, which was very appreciated as a traveler on the road. Thanks Jennifer!

This house was great for a dog and her human. I rented room 3 for a Wednesday summer night and it was quite nice. Happened to be the only guest, but I anticipate no problem with a full house. If all guests know each other, this would be even better. Wood floors made it tricky for my little dog to climb the 3/4 stairs between room 3 and the kitchen, but other than that its a good spot for a gentle pooch. Host was engaging and thoughtful. Clean, quiet, cool, and rather charming.
