Two of us lived In the residence for about three months. First of all, this is a great neighborhood as far as safety goes, which can be hard to find in Oakland. I never felt unsafe living here. Downside to the location is that it's not centrally located and it's about 15 minute drive from the closest bart station. It's walking distance from the closest bus station. The homeowners are very friendly and we were offered a discount for a long term rental. They offered their wifi password and access to their washer and dryer free of charge. There are however multiple issues with this rental. The first is cleaniness. The rental is not dirty but it's very cluttered. The homeowners have several personal items laying around including clothes in closet and food in the freezers. There's lots of trinkets hanging around as well. Second issue is lack of privacy. The laundry is in the garage and is only accessible outside and through the rental space. This rental is situated on the bottom floor of the home. The homeowners informed us that they will need to use the facilities ahead of time so that meant coming through to the rental. That was understandable. There was one door that separated our rental from their home. The issue is that the homeowners would come into our rental to access the garage with no notice, no knock or verbal warning. Another issue we had was being confronted about the cost of the homeowners' energy bill. They asked us to try and decrease our usage of electricity. We ran heaters because the room with the shower has no central heat running through it. It'd get pretty chilly. They gave us permission to adjust the central heat if needed but there were restrictions on how much. We never touched it. I could also hear a draft in the windows. We made a compromise to be colder to fulfill the wishes of the homeowners in lowering their electricity bill. Also, we had several issues with the breakers flipping when turning certain appliances on at the same time. We had to learn that we couldn't always cook/bake while washing clothes. The biggest issue with this rental was the noise level. The insulation is definitely lacking producing an atmosphere that was incredibly noisy. There are several children living in the home and running is heard throughout the day and night. When items are dropped on the floor, it can be heard. There's also a piano. The family like to play the piano at day and night, mostly at night and it can be heard clear as day. When the children scream or voices are escalated, it can be heard as well. The noise level woke both my roommate and I up several times. She worked night shift and had more interruptions than I did. The noise level alone would be a reason I would not want to stay here again. The homeowners were very nice but I would not...

They were so willing to help us which was wonderful! We had 10 people staying in this house but only 2 or 3 at a time which they were willing to work with. I will say, it was not the nicest I've stayed in. The pictures do not show the amount of stuff in the rooms. The closets gave clothes, there are piles of "stuff" all over the place. We were always finding spiders, which is normal for a basement apartment which is what this is. It is connected to the house they live in. The kitchen is not a full kitchen, there is no microwave or oven or real stove. There is a camper stove, a microwave oven, no counter space but still just enough. No TV, the rooms are connected by an open window as well. Although it was not what we were inspecting it was a great stay! The communication is so open, they even let us take the lemons from their yard! Great hiking opportunities in the backyard! AMAZING views! You can here them walking upstairs all the time, and they play the piano which you can here perfectly but I loved this little place :) The people make up for the not so great stuff!

Together with a fellow student, I lived 5 month in Ilyas and Sandys apartment and I would choose staying there again and again! About the location: The flat is in Oakland Hills with an amazing view over the entire Bay Area. The neighborhood is beautiful and not noisy at all. Right behind the house one can enter the Redwood Regional Park. Jogging on this trail was great! On the one site you see the Bay Area and on the other side you see the redwoods! About the apartment: One big living room, two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom as on the pictures. One bedroom has a large window, the other one has none. I really liked the latter as I prefer sleeping in a perfect dark place at night :-) There is also a bunk bed for two persons in the corner of the living room. During springbreak two friends of mine were visiting from abroad and could sleep there. About Ilya and Sandy: I never had so nice and generous landlords! In the first week Sandy drove us around in Oakland and Berkeley to show us where to buy food, the Bart and Bus stations and so on. She even offered to drive us to the UC campus. Everytime we needed something, one of them helped us out. Getting to SF and Berkeley: There is a bus station close to the apartment that can get you to fruitvale Bart Station. Beeing there, it takes less than 20 minutes to either SF or Berkeley. However, I did not make use of the bus. Instead I chose Uber and Lyft. If you call for a ride at the right time and use carpool, it is possible to get to fruitvale for 3$, or directly to Berkeley for 5$. In Prime Time, it is between 8 and 10$, but we could split it :-) In the end, choosing this apartment was the Jackpot! If I am lucky, I will return to the Bay Area next year for a couple of weeks. In this case, I will choose Ilyas and Sandys flat again! :-)

We stayed with Ilya and Sandy for almost two months and were really glad that we had chosen their hospitable place. At first, Ilya and Sandy are most welcoming and friendly hosts making great efforts to help their guests feel at home. At second, the fully furnished rooms provide enough space for a family of three, so our three-year-old son occupied a separate room which turned out to be very suitable for a kid. The kitchen is equipped for every-day cooking. At third, the public transportation can be counted on to reach San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area. Besides, there are many places of interest that one can reach using bus routes and BART. The panoramic views of San Francisco Bay are wonderful both in the daytime and at night. In our opinion, the place is great for a long-term visit. And finally – the yard which is completely equipped for kids! Well, our son stayed out-of-doors from morning till night with short breaks for eating and drinking. The yard borders Redwood Regional Park with lots of hiking trails which is great for older children. All three of us (especially our son) enjoyed staying with Ilya and Sandy. We highly recommend this place for people with kids as well as those who are looking for a home-like place.

My son and I were very pleased with our stay with Ilya and Sandy. They were very friendly and incredibly accommodating. I was looking for a home where my son and I would feel comfortable, where we would each have separate bedrooms and ample common space. The kitchen was well stocked and allowed me to cook meals most nights. The house backs up to some open space in Redwood Regional Park and from the backyard we had access to miles of hiking trails. I highly recommend for people with children, or anyone looking for more of a home-like space.
