The house is a commodious and comfortable traditional victorian on a quiet, leafy street about one-half block from an enormous park which fronts on the St. Lawrence and extends the entire Plain of Abraham, as far as the citadel and port. It is a four block walk from Rue Cartier, which is active with cafes, bars, restaurants and grocery stores, featuring fine local products, a street that serves the local public, not the tourist trade. Luc and his lovely family met us on arrival and introduced us to the house and recommended many things to do in Québec. His approach was friendly, helpful and personal, After that, he respected our privacy and came by only to say goodbye. By this time he felt like a familiar friend. His English is excellent and his fiancée is a Spanish speaker, so they have most everybody covered. Québec is a beautiful city and well worth a visit. While all of the Québecois were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, Luc and his family were outstanding examples of the culture. The house had condiments and amenities which we were encouraged to make use of and we have no complaints.

The day before we arrived, Luc wrote adding two responsibilities for our stay. They were not in the original listing. If they had been, we would not have booked it. One was shoveling snow, the other taking care of his cat. Because of allergies, we asked if there was a part of the house where the cat could be confined. He said it was impossible. The first night was not good. A bedroom door would not latch so the cat came in all night climbing over the bed. We involved Airbnb and they agreed the owner’s listing was misleading. We were able to cancel and get a partial refund, but it was a real headache on Christmas Day. As far as the property, given the tired condition of the house, it is overpriced. All in all, unless your desperate (and love cats) don’t stay here. BTW when we got there it hadn’t been shoveled. There was an inch of ice under the snow so it was impossible to remove.

Response from Luc:
Martha and her family are part of the guests that don't know the difference between Airbnb and hotels, and you should have them as guests if you love having problems. First, they rent my house in Québec city (Canada) in january and were scandalized they had to shovel some snow !!! Worst than that, when they read on my listing there was a cat in the house, they approved the reservation and then asked to confine Pistache in a room for 4 days because their daughter is severely allergic to cats. Ready for even worst? Even though they knew there was a cat, they came into the house with their allergic daughter; and you know what? She got sick!!! These people then asked for refund, inventing snow problems. To avoid at any price.

I do not recommend for others to stay with Luc. I booked our trip nearly 6 months in advance. Before booking I discussed with Luc who was coming (6 adults and 3 infants). He approved our dates, guests, and plans and we went through the booking process (I paid for our stay in full at the time of booking). Fast forward to just 2.5 hours before checkin when the great "shake down" occured. We were already driving (3 separate cars, kids in the cars, already in another country for us- Yes we got all the kids passports JUST for this trip as well) when Luc messaged me and called me leaving me a voicemail to call him immediatley. Luckily I had service and was able to call him back when we were about 30 minutes from Quebec City. He initially asked for additional $400 but then said $300 would be reasonable and said it would be best if we paid him this money in cash at checkin. He said this money was to pay for our extra guests that we were bringing over 5 people. The additional people he referred to were the infants who 1. would be sleeping in cribs we brought from home and 2. I had discussed would be coming already with him before booking. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He said he was putting our reservation on hold and that unless we gave him the money we would need to find elsewhere to stay. He said it was his mistake to not charge us more earlier. I was in tears and Luc didn't care. Of course there wasn't time to book elsewhere 30 minutes before we were in Quebec. At this point I called Airbnb and they thankfully settled things with Luc on our behalf (paying him) and Luc messaged me back and called me back that everything was 'ok' and we could stay with him now. The experience really cast a shadow on our first day of vacation, on the remainder of our trip as I felt like we were walking on eggshells at Luc's house, and on my thoughts of ever booking an airbnb vs a hotel in the future. I can't believe Luc's behavior with me the hours before check-in. His house was in a great location but that is just about it. Also you are responsible for his cat when you are in the house as well (feeding her, water, etc) which is also not something I was aware of upon booking. Luc also comes by on a daily basis to work at his home office so we also felt like the home wasn't really 'ours' in terms of privacy either. So to summarize, it was an overall uncomfortable stay, our check-in was a disaster when Luc demanded we pay him cash or we couldn't stay there, there is a cat you have to take care of, and Luc is not a nice person. Do not stay here.

Finding good accommodation for a family of seven is very difficult. Luc's maispn suited us to a T . His home is clean comfortable and has a beautiful backyard where we enjoyed our morning coffee His recommendations as to what to do in the city were spot on ; we enjoyed three beautiful meals based on them. The location is wonderful close to Rue Cartier and with easy access to the old town. And of course the cat !We all would enjoy staying there again and highly recommend it to others.

We were greeted upon arrival by Luc and his lovely daughters. We could not have felt more welcomed, and that feeling of hospitality remained with us our entire stay. We very much enjoyed our stay in Luc's home, and the location could not have been better!

Fabulous location. Luc met us and walked us through the house. He also took the time to highlight all the local areas of interest, restaurants, grocery stores, pubs etc. We had a wonderful time. Thanks for having us stay at your place Luc!!!

Luc was friendly and responsive leading up to and throughout our stay, and the house was large yet cosy for a family reunion (and the cat became part of the family too!) One thing worth noting is that there are only really two double beds: the rest are singles so couples may be split up, which wasn't clear from the listing, but this would not necessarily be an issue for other groups (we were three couples). Also, the bathrooms were small and had some leak problems, though Luc explained how to deal with these. Nevertheless, the house was very good value for the location, and I would recommend it accordingly: perfect for a lovely historic walk into town along the Plains of Abraham, and a great base for exploring Quebec.
