I recommend this accommodation, the room is very spacious and the bathroom is next door. Although there are many noises. Close to the center of Hilo.

This is a good place for an extended stay, the location is great (20 min walk to downtown), the host is super responsive and takes care of issues ASAP if they come up. The room locked and was safe. You are sharing a bathroom and kitchen with 1-4 other people, depending on how many rooms are in use while you're there. The bathroom was more of an issue for me - I just didn't cook much and the room has its own fridge and microwave and plenty of shelving. There is no AC, it truly is old-style plantation home with thin walls and floors, you can hear basically everything anyone else does, but people were pretty respectful of quiet hours at night. I slept like a rock there. The windows catch the breeze and with the fans in the room, it was very pleasant. There are a lot of rooms for rent in the house between the downstairs area where this room is, and the upstairs rooms in the main house, so there are always people coming and going, and some guests are more respectful than others. People ignored the no smoking rule at least once, and weren't always great at cleaning up after themselves, but that's kinda part and parcel of a place like this. Overall it was good, and I would stay again if I returned to the island.

This room was exactly as posted. Nothing fancy, just a room for a budget traveler. The location is great and it serviced its purpose for a place to sleep, shower, & eat. There are other long term renters in the basement who were very kind and helpful with area tips. Kalama was out of town while I was there but responded promptly to my text messages. She was very kind and let me leave my bags overnight after I checked out.

For only one night is it ok but not for more. You share the kitchen and the bathroom with a lot of insects and other small animals...

The price of the room was reasonable because it is well located and calm. However, there were a lot of dust under the bed.

The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

Response from Kalama:
Canceled because the guest wrote and asked to check in early, so I assumed he was in the party we were expecting that day. To make it easy for them, I accepted via my phone as I was not at home. When I got to my computer, I saw he was not the same guest as the one who was supposed to arrive the following day, and I didn't have time to turnover the room. English was not his first language so I think there was a problem with the translation. I called airbnb and explained the situation and they said they would assist him.
