Kurosawa san welcomes you to his retirement home in the village of Ieyama ( prime green tea growing district). His passion is Japanese history specialising on the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu . Come & experience life in peaceful & friendly rural Japan .

The space

Please check the photos and read the section below on Mr. Kurosawa and his little rural hangout .

Guest access

You have the run of the complete house apart from one room (Mr. Kurosawa`a bedroom) The whole idea is to give you a Japanese rural experiance with some history attached !

Interaction with guests

You can see from my photos that the house and the room offered is really interesting and something not usually available. I have 3 other properties available in the Ieyama area however this one is the first house share situation. To explain a little, Mr. Kurosawa is a retired Ministry of Education employee as well as part time university lecturer. His area or expertise is the life and times of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Tokugawa era. He speaks English to a basis level however is a great communicator face to face. To ensure a problem free stay I will coordinate your stay the same as I do for our other properties.

The room put aside for visitors is newly built and has a great outlook over Ieyama village. You will share the bathroom, kitchen and the rest of the house with Kurosawa san . He will only have one guest at a time (or one couple) Please note babies/infants are permited but due to the fact that there a lot of displays any damage caused will be the parents responable .Babies/infants (0~5years old) are half price

The room has a permanent single bed and roll away or futon can be placed in the same room to cater for couples.

The house is a 7minute walk from the Ieyama station and you do not require a car. In most cases I will pick you up, take you to our local market so you buy some what you require .

As with the other properties I coordinate , my driver is to get Ieyama on the map for of foreign guests. It is such a lovely part of the country and so many visitors come to Japan and only experience the city. Take a day or two and find out what a break in the countryside can offer.

Feel free to ask any questions ..

Other things to note

If you are into Osen`s we have one of most well known osen in this part of Japan just 10 minutes drive away . The Kawane Osen ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it ) is very well priced (like only ¥500 per person) it is a natural osen (not just heated water) and has an outdoor area where you can sit and enjoy the scenery as well the warmth of the water

If you are only going to one place on Japan go here. The host really is Mr Kurosawa who is delightful. He has to pick you up from the train station or else you will never find his house which is up some very narrow "roads " but which is great when you get there. The room is upstairs and leads to a balcony and further up a viewing platform. There are loads of trimmed yew plantations which are visually pleasing. The beds were comfortable. You will need to do your own cooking and Mr Kurosawa will enjoy eating and drinking with you. Mr Kurosawa drove us all around the place. It was fun and interesting and he really enjoys doing it, though he has a sore knee so he can't engage in as much activity as he used to. His English is OK and he is fascinating. He really made this stay special and I suspect he does that for everyone. He is the Japanese friend you have but had not yet met. This is a great rural adventure. So different to the urban areas of Japan. Very pretty area with steep high mountains and a winding river. It was refreshing and fun but not for those wanting 5 star hotel accommodation. I loved it because of the natural beauty but especially because of Mr Kurosawa.

The room was very nice, clean and has a beautiful view. The town of Ieyama is a quiet and interesting place to walk around and enjoy the countryside of Japan. Kurosawa San is a very good host. He gave us enough space but also took us to some fun places we would not have found alone. We enjoyed mealtimes together and cooked each day. He is intellectual and has interesting stories. We want to come back again!

After 6 years living in Japan, I was still surprised by the beauty and tranquility of Ieyama. Kurosawa san's house is a wonderful place to stay, and he is a kind and welcoming host with many interesting stories. We wish we could've stayed much longer.

Kurosawa-san was such a nice host. He came to the station to pick us and helped a lot during our trip - taking us by car to supermarkets to buy food, offering us to take us to the villages around, suggesting places, giving calls so that we could rent bicycles easily etc. Bicycles might be necessary if - like us - you don't have a car. It allows you to show the incredibly beautiful landscapes of Shimada, full of tea plantations, mountains, lakes and rivers. We also learned a lot about Japanese history thanks to Kurosawa-san's knowledge. The house was really nice and you might enjoy the view from the observatory which you can access from the air bnb room's balcony.

Kurosawa San and his home are absolutely amazing. He picked us up from the train station and took us to this really special place for some lunch. Then we arrived at his amazing house. It's full of culture and artwork, and our room was spacious, and had the most amazing view. The next day he recommended places for us to visit and then we all cooked a traditional Japanese dinner. The next day he made us breakfast, took us to an amazing bridge and then dropped us off at the train station. Mr Kurosawa San was an amazing host who did everything he could to make us feel at home. He has a passion for teaching and learning and was a joy to be around. The local area is absolutely stunning with so many places to discover. I can't recommend staying with Kurosawa San enough - we'll definitely be back
