This was my second stay, in a new season. The star-filled night sky was gorgeous and the song of spring peepers was magical. I will keep coming back, as it is a very convenient and friendly place.

If the room had been half the price, I would have been more tolerant of the rustic accommodations. The hosts were warm and welcoming, but I couldn't help feeling, the moment I arrived, that I had made a mistake. The Horse Room in mid-November was spartan and unheated. The hosts' bedroom was next door (that was a little too intimate for my taste). The bathroom was across the hall, and would have been a shared bath if other guests had been there. The state of the shower was discouraging (I didn't dare use it). For the same price I paid for the Horse Room, I could have enjoyed a more comfortable stay at the 3-star Red Lion Inn nearby. I was told that the breakfast would be eggs with kale and cheese, but unfortunately it was simply scrambled eggs. I feel lousy complaining, since the hosts were charming. As I said, the room rate was too high for what was offered.

Response from Larry:
We are thankful that you came to stay with us at the farmhouse. Our home has hosted people from all over the world over the last 25 years. Most of them speak honestly so we can serve them well; in our we home strive to follow the Golden Rule. When you and your daughter arrived, we explained that we generally turn the heat down in the evening. Having our bedroom with easy access to our guests' just warrants a knock for us to adjust any of the 3 thermostats in any of these zones to accommodate our guests’ choice of sleeping temperature. A new burner was installed this year and the Horse Room has a full baseboard heater running across the full length of the room so it is not a true statement that there is no heat in that room. The noise level of our farm is less than the Red Lion Inn which has one side abutting Route 7 and the front abutting the main street. Also, the Red Lion Inn’s “Stephen’s House” has the same price for rooms as we do, but there could be people sleeping above and below you as well as next to you. That price does not include your breakfast as ours does. As for your breakfast being left uneaten, the cook asked if there was something else he could fix for you since your daughter was enjoying her farm-fresh eggs and you were not touching yours. You are the first person we’ve ever hosted to not speak up and share your true heart. All you had to do was state that you preferred the kale and cheese added. Your daughter thanked the cook once again for her breakfast on the way out after she had showered in the very shower that you refused to use and that guests have enjoyed regularly for 25 years. We truly enjoy how your beautiful daughter embraces life. Many guests ask about our cleaning supplies before coming. We use tea tree oil and natural products as they are not carcinogenic. This does make the bathroom and the bedrooms have a smell that some people do not recognize. Guests often participate in our horseback riding program, native plant nursery, sustainable farming, entomology, or just taking a hike on the farm. We hope you will come again to experience more of what we have to offer.

We had a very enjoyable stay with Larry and Katherine. They were very accommodating and we enjoyed getting to know Katherine better over a wonderful breakfast and a quick visit of the farm before we left. Wish we had time to visit the Berkshire Botanical Garden next door - next time!

Larry was a fun host, full of cool observations of the Farm's natural history and a tasty breakfast chef. I enjoyed our conversations and his tour to meet the critters and see the vegetable production. The bed was cozy and I slept wonderfully. I shall return to this scenic and charming home.

What a wonderful couple Larry and Katherine! They are down to earth, warm and welcoming. Love the breakfast, interaction with my family esp my little angel. She loves the farm and the education from Katherine about the farm. Room is comfortable with nice beds. the front room we took is a bit noisy at times from the road but durable even for a light sleeper as I am I was fine. we really enjoyed their conversation and their company. That's a great way to meet someone awesome in life journey. Thanks to you a lovely couple.

Response from Larry:
There are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in all 4 bedrooms, carbon monoxide detectors at the top of each staircase, and smoke detectors in the living room, dining room, kitchen, cellar and attic stairwell. The four large ABC fire extinguishers are openly exposed, two by the bedrooms at the top of the stairs, one in the kitchen, and one in the front entryway. We appreciate the encouragement to add the proximity to the Norman Rockwell Museum and Tanglewood to our on-line description.
