The place was clean, comfortable and extremely well located for visiting the kauri forest. Richard was a friendly, knowledgable host and provided us with everything we needed - including a kiwi spotting torch! We only wish we could have stayed longer.

We loved our stay at the Birdsnest. Spacious rooms that are lovely decorated and with beautiful views of the garden. We could borrow Richard's red spotlight to spot some kiwis in nearby Trounson Kauri park (which we unfortunately did not see or hear, probably due to the weather).

If you are looking to explore the epic Kauri trees in the Waipoua Forest, Richard's place is a perfect stopping point to rest your head. Lovely place hidden in the trees and a close proximity to many walking/exploring tracks. We had a lovely stay! :)

Response from Richard:
Hi Henry One of your kids left a soft toy in the bed. Unfortunately I didn't find it until it had been through the washing machine but it's fine. Would you like me to post it to you. Regards Richard Bird

What a great place to unwind out in the country, not far from some amazing Kauri forests. Richard is a great host with lots of knowledge about the area. Make sure you bring your own food as it's a long way from shops, etc.

If you're undecided on places, don't be! This is an amazing experience. We saw glow worms, and up the road, a kiwi! Highlight of our travels.

Visited while touring the Waipoua Forest. Only stayed one night, but wish it could have been longer since it was a beautiful and secluded location. I do recommend following the directions provided by the host as there is little cell phone and GPS reception. The house was lovely with very comfortable beds. Richard and Angela were excellent hosts.
