Two story octagonal out-building on a quiet meadow. Clean and cute within easy car ride to many mid-coast destinations. Enjoy our very small town with easy access to the Cathance River.

The space

Unusual shaped building, humorous yet practical decor. Kitchenette with microwave half size refrigerator, sink, coffee maker, NOT a full kitchen. Bedroom has a queen sized bed and downstairs has a double futon. There is also a fold out chair upstairs. If you are traveling with a total four persons, we would like to know ahead of time.

Guest access

You are welcome to enjoy our ten acre property. Sit and rock in the over-sized concrete rockers. Have pictures with our dinosaurs. Hang out in the tree house. Converse with the chickens.

Interaction with guests

We will be happy direct you as you plan your stay if you need/want help. There is a book in the room with pamphlets outlining some of the public walks, beach access, boat rentals, local food and shopping. Call us, or knock on the door if you need anything.

Other things to note

Stairs to go up to bedroom are a bit steep, but there are great handrails

The attached building is a wood shop. Sometimes there are shop noises from there, but not too often and not when anyone is likely to be sleeping. We are pretty quiet here. Sometimes my grandchildren are a bit ruckus, but the guest house is far enough away not to bother much.

We are so happy that we got to stay at Josephine's octagon guest house while we were in Maine for a wedding. Everything - from the peaceful, fun, and accessible and convenient location (just 40-45 min to Popham Beach, 27 min to Pownal), the wonderfully comfy bed, the sunlight and the fall colors, the heated floors, the closet to hang our wedding clothes in, the kitchen appliances and supplies, the spaciousness and cleanliness of the whole place (both inside and outdoors), and the balance of privacy and host's availability if we needed anything or had any questions or concerns...Wow! Also, being welcomed in person by our hosts when we arrived made us feel safe and comfortable there, and being able to park our car right next to the guest house was really helpful, especially since we arrived quite late on Friday night after driving 10 hours.

Josephine and her family are super nice and really easy to talk to. Their property is very well maintained and less than ten minute drive from the highway. Their driveway is a little hard to spot initially from the road, but look for the double mailboxes. Their driveway is right there. Their guest house is very nice and airy due to all the windows. There is no sleeping in as the east sun does a great job of illuminating the bedroom, even with the shades down!! The guest house sleeps two adults very comfortably, and may sleep a third using the futon in the downstairs area, though the mattress is kind of thin. Overall, I thought that Josephine's guest house was very comfortable and served as a great base to explore what the Seacoast of Maine has to offer!

Josphine was great with communicating with any, and every question. She got right back to me within a couple hours or less. The property is beautiful and peaceful. I got to hear an owl throughout the night. Love the dinosaur sculptures, and giant rocking chairs. The house is unique with shape. The inside is very artistic and perfect size for a small family. The upstairs with clouds painted on the ceiling, and sky light are great. Love the painting on the walls with trees and grass. This is a get away from technology as of now they dont have WiFi. And there is no TV, which is fine. The location is 20-50 minutes from a lot of different things that Maine has to offer. Our family enjoyed it.

Josephine wasn't able to greet us in person when we arrived, but she took time to call ahead of time to give us many great ideas and information about the sights and activities in the area. The place is beautiful. The property is in a peaceful and park-like setting. The perfect jumping off point for visiting several places on the coast. Very relaxing after daily trips to the area attractions. Josephine's husband greeted us. Very friendly couple. Not intrusive in any way. Just lovely, helpful people. They really have done a great job of including everything you need for your stay.

Brent is a builder and I am retired. We built our very private energy efficient, octagonal home and enjoy our "Park Like" property. Our granddaughters visit regularly which is why we have a tree-house and other whimsical additions on our property. I also love to travel and so can appreciate what it is like to be a guest in a new place.
