This apartment is in a wonderful location and has a splendid balcony and nice view. But, it is not ready for visitors just yet.
First, we had trouble on arrival. We were never given an apartment number or floor of the building, only the address. We had instructions to contact the sister who lives there, which we did. She cannot speak English so we were texted that the keys were in the mailbox. The key set didn’t identify which floor or apartment. We texted Petr, while trying the key in doors on different floors. Finally we were provided the information and were able to enter the apartment.
Second, no information about wifi or operating the stove, etc. There was supposed to be an info sheet, but there was none. More texting.
Third, there is not one single table in the apartment, nothing to put things on.
Fourth, there is also no space to unpack, no empty drawers to store things. So, everything goes on the floor and that is not convenient. This would be a big problem for any one staying longer than our two days.
But, the worst problem we had is that this apartment is on the 6th floor and has no breeze and the temperature was 40 C. No ceiling fans, no floor fans, just HOT. We could not stay in the apartment. We tried, but dripped sweat profusely. We again texted, about a fan, but were told this temperature was unusual. No, it is not. Temperatures in the 30s frequently occur this time of year. We have stayed in more than 200 accommodations in the last three years, including 6 months in India, and everywhere has fans if a/c is not available. Our Airbnb apartment in Prague has two, every place in Moravia had them, the very next Airbnb place in Cesky Krumlov had one. It is inexcusable to have guests and not provide one given the conditions. We were miserable. We had to sleep outside on the balcony both nights, and were awakened early by the baking sun directly on the deck. Also, because of the heat, we had to stay out of the apartment during the whole day and early evening, so it was impossible for us to do some work we needed to accomplish.
We texted Petr that we would not be able to stay in the apartment and requested a refund. But, it took him 18 hours to respond, making it impossible for us to be able to return to find a place, pack and move. Petr was apologetic, but apologies don't quite cut it under such conditions. He should have tried to get a fan through his sister or more actively figure out a solution.
