The pod is a comfortable sleeping bag accommodation for two people, a unique wooden hut. Access to toilets, kitchen facilities, outdoor sinks, hot tubs and showers. Fossatún is surrounded by magnificent nature, situated by a river, lake and a mountain. Nice hikes are in the area. Fossatún is centrally located in the mid of West Iceland and an ideal place to explore the area from and well situated for Northern Lights.

The space

Think of a pod as a replacement for your tent with an added facilities. You'll need to bring everything you would bring if you were camping: sleeping bag, pots and pans but with an added luxury of space, warmth, dryness, electricity and a good bed to sleep in.

The pod is divided into a sleeping area and a seating are which has a table, 2 chairs and a bench. The sleeping area has a double bed (2.00 m x 1.60 m) with special comfortable mattresses of fabric that is bacterial resistant and breathes (a la goretex). The pods have electrical radiators, lights, sockets and WiFi. This is a sleeping bag accommodation, but a bed linen package with pillow, duvet and towel is available if guest want.

Guest access

Guests have access to service house with toilets, showers, changing rooms, hot tubs, outdoor sinks and BBQ Grill area plus a cooking cabin (microwave, stove, tea kettle and pans). For an extra charge washing machine and dryer are also available.

Fossatún restaurant is on location and serves, both breakfast, lunch and dinner with regular opening during main season (spring, summer, autumn) also open in winter but pending on number of guests staying.

Interaction with guests

IIf guests want assistance or information about the area please contact us at reception. If guests need assistance or information about the area please contact us at reception. We live at Fossatún farm (across the road from the receiption) and work and play at the Fossatún receiption/restaurant. Always around and ready to help out any way we can.

Other things to note

Check in at Fossatún in daylight and enjoy the surrounding and facilities on offer. Northern Lights viability depends on solar activity and cloud situation. Star bright high activity=good possibilities. Weather can change fast in Iceland. All main roads are kept open through winter but can close temporarily f.e. in a sudden blizzard. Snow does not come and stay as it also rains quite a lot during winter.

What a beautiful stop! We enjoyed the hot tubs immensely, which are heated from a natural source, and saw the most stunning northern lights we have ever seen right outside our pod. There is very little light pollution, making viewing here a pleasure. The restaurant near the pods was also delicious, offering local fare at a reasonable price! The pod was clean, cozy, and comfortable. We were nice and warm despite some chilly weather.

Nice and cozy camping pod. We needed a kitchen on our backpacking trip and there was everything you needed in the public kitchen. Its a good spot to seeing northern lights and you have many sightseeing spots near to fossatun:)

This pod is part of a small family resort. The restaurant on site was the best meal I had during my entire stay in Iceland. The views from the hiking trails around the campsite we're lovely.

Great place to view the Northern Lights! Pods are super cozy and fun to stay in. If you are not camping either bring bedding with or be prepared to rent some upon arrival. Bed is super comfy - one of the best sleeps I've had! The grounds are themed with a cute troll story and add an extra whimsical element to the stay! Hot tubs are awesome at night!!!
