The space

The bedroom is a relaxing lovely place for a book lover and an adventure seeker. Feel free to pick up one of the many books on the shelves and read about anything from how to travel on a budget or Dr. Seuss. Soft natural light which also includes the authentic display of art we have from the exchange students we have hosted.
The bathroom off the kitchen is exclusively yours while a guest in our home. Granite floors, a Jacuzzi tub and full use of the kitchen help our guests unwind after a day of journeys or to make themselves at home if doing grueling job or house hunting.
Our home is full of quite a history and represents the family we have built and the community we are proud. We have lived in this home for decades, raised our children here and not only do we know our neighbors- they are both our biological family as well as people we've known for decades.
We invite you into our home as a new addition to both a home layered with history but a neighborhood that is truly neighborly.

Guest access

Very nice tiled private bath, off the kitchen. Make your self at home and enjoy the lovely marble counter-tops in the full kitchen (don't forget the mini fridge in the bedroom!). Our guests have access to majority of the home (excluding our own bedroom/office and bathroom of course).

Interaction with guests

Ask Ken or I any questions from how to get round town the best way (Ken was an UBER and LYFT driver) to where to eat in the area.
Ken is a funny, outgoing musician and I am a teacher in every sense of the word. We welcome and respect however much interaction suits our guests. In the instances our daughter (Julia) happens to be here she can point you towards the comedy scene, theater and Ken and myself are happy to share our plethora of Portland knowledge.
Your stay is truly important to us as well as having as enjoying your travels. We always welcome our guests to message us with an questions not just about our home but about Stumptown (Portland).
We look forward to meeting you!

Susan is very considerate, helpful and understanding. Her place provided all facilities needed by a traveler who is willing to spend a night over: parking spots for two cars, a queen sized bed with clean sheets, medium sized fridge with three shelves in bedroom. She even allowed me to place some stuff in the room before check-in time. She also offered us coffee for breakfast. I would definitely recommend her place for future visitors to Portland.

Susan's place was a good base for our stay in Portland. A nice quiet area and not too far to drive into the city. Honey was a great greeter too! Thanks Susan!

Very accommodating and Honey their sweet dog, we're all very hospitable throughout our stay. Although it was just for an overnight stay, the bed was extremely comfortable and we felt refreshed from our stay.

We had a great time staying at Susan's. It's on the east side of Portland, so great for getting out to the mountains, or downtown.

We ended up not staying at Susan's place. I CAN tell you that everything leading up to he reservation was pleasant and friendly. She is great about communication; she responded to my messages within the hour. However, my husband and I drove by her house and felt as if the location was not for us. We did not stay overnight so we cannot say anything for certain, but we felt unsafe in that particular neighborhood. In our opinion, the photos of the outside seemed to be deceiving.

Response from Susan:
I have been thinking about this review for a few days. I live on a dead end with only 5 houses, so I am confused as to how you were able to "drive by" and and make the assumption our neighborhood was unsafe. We are a middle class neighborhood with many of us living in our homes for over 30 years. My oldest son lives in the neighborhood with my grandchildren. Our home might be old, but like my neighbors, we work hard to keep it looked nice. As to the pictures on the site, the only difference is I am growing different plants. Our whole front yard is full of veggies and sunflowers, there is no grass. I wish you had taken the time to double check the address (since I know that Airbnb doesn't always supply the address) and been truthful about by passing Portland on your trip.

Susan's place was a nice home. We enjoyed meeting Honey, the dog. The home is on a quiet street. One does have to walk through the main hall and kitchen to get to the bathroom. The bedroom is a nice size with a fridge.

I enjoy gardening and grow veggies year round. My husband and I also enjoy the music of Portland and would be willing to share our love of it with you. I am an Early Childhood Educator.Ken is a mobile Notary.and a former Uber driver. He can advise you on the best way to get around the area.
During the summer and fall months, we volunteer with a program that harvests fruit that would go to waste. Most of the fruit goes to a food bank, but we also get to bring some home. During those months you might find fruit on the porch that we are willing to share.I have lived in Portland my whole life and love the area.
You will certainly here "living the dream" said throughout your stay by Ken.
We are avid travelers ourselves and not only loving seeing different parts of the World but also enjoy meeting anyone from our fellow Portlanders to... everyone.
