Charming chalet, with great decks surrounded by trees, for great getaways. On the main level is the kitchen, large dining table, living room, a full bathroom, one bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and one bedroom with a king-sized bed. Please do not ask for discounts, as prices are firm.
The red chalet is located 6 miles from downtown Brevard (~13 minute drive), 7 miles from the entrance to Pisgah National Forest (~15 minute drive) and 15 miles from Dupont State Forest (~25 minute drive). The large back deck, with hammock, and gas grill is up high, surrounded by trees, providing a treehouse-like feel.
Step inside to the main living area (with a gable wall of windows, overlooking the deck)— half of which is set up as a living room and half of which holds a large farm table that seats 8. Behind the dining table is a small kitchen with two stools at the counter, a brand new gas range and a refrigerator.
Just behind the kitchen are two adjacent bedrooms—one with a queen-sized bed and one with a king-sized bed. Just next to the bedrooms is a small, updated, full-size bathroom with shower and tub.
*Upstairs is a large open loft that is my home office that is not part of the rental deal. It contains a half bath that can be used if necessary, but otherwise the loft is off limits.
Outside, below the main deck is another small deck. And below that is a private little stone patio.
There is a fire pit located up in the center of the driveway that you are welcome to use, but you have to keep it quiet late night because it is right next to the next-door neighbors house.
The house is on an acre, but it is not fenced in and there is one neighbor pretty close by. There is a 10x10 dog kennel located just off the driveway that you can use if necessary, but only if your dogs don't bark or if you have bark collars. It is very close to the neighbor's house.
Guests can access all areas of the home, decks, yard and parking that have been mentioned. As mentioned, the upstairs loft is my home office and is not part of the rental. There is not a way to close it off, so you must respect my space, on the honor system.
Additionally there is a crowded, cluttered basement that houses the washer and dryer and a little space for your bikes, etc that you can have access to if you ask ahead of time. If you do not ask ahead of time, the basement (and therefor washer/dryer and storage space) will be locked-off. Remember to mention you need basement access, and your reason, before or during the time we arrange your access, so that I can give you the additional key.
I live in the house full time, so I have food stored in the fridge, freezer and pantry. You are welcome to use the basics such as olive oil, salt, pepper and spices, and condiments. If you need to use something more substantial, either replace it, or leave a few bucks for it with a note, please.
Guests may use the fire pit in the driveway area.
Interaction with guests
When you rent the home, I vacate the space to make it available, and it varies where I go during that time. If you will need assistance, I will have a close friend appointed to help out if I am out of town. If I stay locally, I can help out with things as needed.
Other things to note
I live in the home full-time with my dog, but we will be gone during your stay. The house will be fully cleaned before you arrive, but it is impossible to get up every last dog hair no matter how hard I try. This home may not be the best option for those with an allergy to dogs or for people who prefer a more sterile environment.
I have the check-in time set to 3PM, so that I have time to clean before your arrival. If you need to check-in early, let me know well in advance of your arrival date to see if arrangements can be made for me to clean the day before. Check-out time is 11 AM, but this may be flexible if you talk to me in advance and if no one else is checking in the same day. Also, if you know you will be leaving earlier than 11AM, please let me know in advance so I can plan to return earlier or have it cleaned earlier. And I ask that you send a message when you take off so that I know it is okay to come back.
The kitchen is stocked with plates and bowls for 4. If you are going to have more guests for a meal, you will need to bring your own dish set. Other than dishes, there are griddles, pots, pans, a Vitamix and utensils to suit most needs. There is a small, Italian stovetop Moka pot for making coffee, a French Press, a coffee grinder and a cheapo electric coffee maker. I do not provide coffee or snacks, so please bring your own. Many guests have commented that they loved how well-appointed the kitchen is. Foodies should be happy. Although it is small, it is has what you need. Note that there is no microwave nor toaster oven, but a two-slice toaster.
There is no television. There is a projector and projector screen. You can bring your own laptop or Apple TV to connect to the projector via HDMI. There is an set of speakers you can plug into your laptop or tablet. If you are bringing an Apple TV please let me know in advance if you will need the speaker with optical audio (I do not keep it out because I stopped using my Apple TV).
I have a large airline style dog crate available if you need it to leave your dog in while you are out. Please let me know in advance if you would like me to have it ready for you.
Because of the old septic system, guest count is limited to 4. I worry that it can't handle more than 4 people showering and using the bathroom. If there is an occasional need to sleep a 5th person, that may be okay if we discuss it first.
Do not put any grease down the drain. Soak it up with a paper towel and throw it in the trash. Also, no feminine hygiene products or condoms down the toilet! TP and human waste only, please.
Do not leave food or trash outside. We get bears occasionally, so please take this rule seriously.
No large or loud parties.
No smoking on the premises. Period.
Do your dishes before you leave. It is totally fine to leave them drying on the counter.
DOG PEOPLE: If you have dogs, they must be potty trained and non-destructive. Do not allow them to scratch at the doors or molding (inside or out), or you will be charged. If you use the outside kennel and your dogs go to the bathroom in it, please remove the waste asap. My dogs rarely go into the kennel and they don't go to the bathroom in it. I don't want it to start to smell. Do not leave your dogs in the kennel if they bark. The neighbors will be disrupted by that, and its not fair for them to have to listen to it for hours while you are gone or while they are trying to sleep. Bring bark collars if necessary. Do not let your dogs go to the bathroom on the neighbor's property. Let me know ahead of time if you would like me to make my large airline style crate available for you to leave your dog in while you are out. Clean up all pet waste from the yard before you leave. The house has poop bags I'll leave out for dog people. A receptacle will be provided for poop bags (only place bagged waste in the receptacle). If your dogs must get on the furniture, please bring thick sheets, blankets or some sort of covering to protect my sofas and bedding. I am a dog lover, but I know that no matter how clean a dog is, their drool, hair and and certain body parts leave little messes that are a lot of work to clean up. I do not charge a pet fee, so please do your best to take care of my home. Thank you!
Have a wonderful time!
I love where I live in Brevard, NC, and I love sharing my home and all of the things I love about the area with other people. I have a rescue dog who is my child, so I am especially empathetic to those who are traveling with dogs. I love road cycling, mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, and hiking when I am home; and I love to travel to destinations around the world to surf and snowboard and bike. I love healthy, local food and IPA.
