This property property sits alone on 900 ft of shoreline and 10 acres in one of the most desirable areas in Muskoka. You will have oodles of privacy with no visible neighbours in this 1800 sq ft boathouse in your own private cove.

The space

This is a unique building. A modern renovation to this old Muskoka style boathouse with mid-century modern touches makes this an interesting space. The best interior feature is the huge open living space with 16ft cathedral ceilings overlooking water all around. The best exterior feature is the completely private, panoramic view of Lake Muskoka with no visible neighbours in front of one of the widest sections of the lake. You will have 6 different outdoor seating areas including covered or uncovered with multiple outdoor dining options. You will have two big docks that flank each side of your private cove and 3 boat slips if you need them.

Other things to note

The boathouse is located on Tondern Island, home to Millionaires Row and Beaumaris Private Yacht and Golf Club. You will drive onto the island and park up to 2 cars in reserved spots the the Yacht Club and then hop into 2 golf carts to transport you across the golf course and through a gravel path through the woods to Sherwood. A quirky way to get to a cottage but it is sure to mesmerize you once you arrive to your own private paradise. If you prefer you can take a water taxi from the Beaumaris Marina if prearranged. Honestly, we have never met a crew of guests that could not fit themselves and all their gear on the carts. Each cart is equipped for carrying luggage and groceries.

A standard, very sacred, rule for all cottages: do not flush anything down the toilet other than toilet paper. We are on a septic system, like all cottages, and the pump will clog and fail if you do not follow this rule.

No guests, other than the ones approved at booking, are allowed at the cottage without advance notice. Maximum of 6 overnight guests is optimal and we can sleep extra guests for a night or two but please communicate with us in advance. There is no lack of space or beds but there is only one bathroom, which can be limiting after a night or two.

Our local team, carpenter/maintenance person and the cleaning person/greeter will be in the area during your stay and may drop in to see if all is well and if you need anything for your stay.

Nobody without a driver's license is allowed to drive the golf cart. Adults must accompany drivers under 18 through the woods and across the golf course. No drinking alcohol on the golf cart or anywhere on the golf course or in the woods beyond the property.

Please refill the golf cart before you leave. The marina has a cart-friendly fill up nozzel.

Please do not drive carts on the golf course other than on the designated cottager path.

Sorry but you cannot golf on the private Beaumaris Golf Course. This is strictly enforced by BYC.

You must also acknowledge
No parking on property - You can't drive your car right to the property. You will have to park in Beaumaris and ride the rest of the way in a golf cart(s) provided.
Amenity limitations - Power outages are common in cottage country. If the power goes out you will not have water because the pump will not work. We do not have a generator.

This is our second year at Diane's house and it was as fabulous as I remembered it. The house is comfortable and spacious, the grounds are picture perfect and the privacy is unparalleled. We thoroughly enjoyed our Lake Muskoka experience. Thanks for another great vacation.

We really enjoyed our time at Dianne's cottage. The cottage is much more spacious than we expected and the Apple TV was a nice surprise as we did have some rainy days. We expected there to be some basic condiments and oils/vinegars (just what we were used to at other AirB&B's) - however there was basically just salt and pepper. Not a big deal - just so you know when you get there. The golf cart ride was a little longer than we expected (About 10 minutes from the parking lot) - and although there are two of them they are both two seaters with space for just a few items in the back. It was a little annoying at the onset of the week and the end of the week to spend a couple hours going back and forth with people and items (especially during torrential rain). The water is a little rough in front of the cottage as its on one of the main channels of Lake Muskoka. The two docks do provide nice protection and a create a calm swimming area that would be perfect for kids in front of the boat house. The two docks are a bit of a rocky walk to get out too, which can be cumbersome if you need to get back and forth from the cottage a lot. The cottage is beautifully private, we barely saw anyone all week. Overall a great week and a great rental cottage.

The Boathouse was extremely private, and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The kids fished off all the docks, and caught lots of sunfish, rock bass, small mouth bass and even a 2 ft pike. Hauling our supplies to the cottage from the parking area was an adventure, and the gnomes along the forest trail made it quirky but fun, I think my daughter counted 23 of them! The only thing our family would recommend is some blinds or curtains for the bedrooms, as the bright Muskoka sun, woke us up a little earlier then we would have preferred. We are already talking about coming back in the fall, to enjoy the colours and beautiful landscapes. Thanks, The McNairn's

Response from Diane:
Thanks for sharing your ideas about the blinds. To be honest I struggle a little with the brightness myself in the mornings too. We talk it around with the family and guests from time to time and we can't reach a consensus...some love to open their eyes and see the view and lie in bed...and others want SLEEP at all costs. We will revisit it for sure and I appreciate the fresh reminder. A 2 foot pike? Wow! It has been years since anyone has done that off our dock.

Lake Muskoka was a new destination for our family and I was apprehensive about trying something new. However when we arrived at Sherwood and lay eyes upon the serene and idyllic location, I knew we were in for a treat. This house does not disappoint. The cove is truly private. There are no other neighbors in sight and it is surrounded with woods that are perfect for young explorers. The house itself was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. We were there during a particularly hot stretch of weather and the house stayed cool with plenty of lake breezes. The docks are perfectly sited for swimming and sunbathing. It seemed that you could find a patch of sun or shade, depending on your preference, at any time of the day. Each evening we enjoyed pre-dinner snacks at the lakeside gazebo and watched lake life pass us by. The golf cart approach is novel and actually ended up providing an extra layer of relaxation. The buffer gave me one less reason to get in my car and I never set foot in it all week long. The island has a cute general store where the kids can get ice cream and candy and has basic provisions if you forget something at the grocery store. We rented a small powerboat at the marina adjacent to the store which was perfect for exploring the lake. However the house has a canoe, kayak, and paddleboat you can use too. Finally, Diane was the perfect host. She was responsive and accommodating. If you are looking for a Lake Muskoka retreat, this one is truly special.

ok I thought of not leaving a review as this place was so amazing I wanted to keep it for myself and not tell everyone in the airbnb world how amazing it was. What the pictures and description don't show you is the massive property this cottage sits on. and for outdoor enthusiasts like our family this was simply amazing. not a single neighbour in site! walks through the forest, hanging out at the beach or simply looking at the constellations at night . truly spectacular! Now the lake. Too good to be true, clean , warm, and wonderful views. Swam every day, all day. The golf carts: a very welcome surprise, enhanced the experience, you take a magical trip through the forest to get to the cottage. Just awesome. If you run into other cottagers on the way you will find the best people Muskoka has to offer. The cottage: amazing styling, everything you need, WIFI so fast you will feel that you are at (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)'s headquarters. Kitchen bar to share waterskiing and tubing and fishing war stories over a glass of wine at nite; large balcony that everyone can hang out at. Loft for the teenagers to plot their next day escapades. In short, way more than we expected and our expectations were high. Hostess was availalble at all times and so was her local property manager. Suggestions: speak with the Mike at beaumaris marina and rent a boat. Excellent staff there and wide selection of boats. dont hit a sand bar though..! like i did. the Lake is far too good not to explore, day trips to pt carling and bala are a lot of fun. or go thru the locks into lake rosseau and head to clevelands house for drinks on the deck. If you get a boat, don't rely on charts, download the navionics app for your phone it can chart courses to anywhere you want, and shows you depths, nav aids, buoys etc. Especially usuful for night navigation! ( buy maybe not sand bars..). I have been around the world, but this is possibly my best family vacation ever. Thank you Diane!

I am a Toronto professional in the Architectural and Renovation field but my husband and I are working on becoming nomads. Our Toronto home and our Muskoka cottage remain our pride and joy but our favourite thing to do is see the world, hopefully by bike or on foot, but always staying at an airbnb. We love the surprise of interesting homes in amazing locations and in that spirit we offer ours to you.
