I just want to clarify that this area is safe- a quiet residential area, all families with children, ice cream trucks, library on the corner. It has the same or better safety ratings than Venice, West Hollywood or Downtown LA. I know what Brendan is referring to but in the UK I think the word "rough" is used slightly differently, and can mean rough looking/ rough around the edges. I don't want others to take it to mean violent or dangerous. I walk around by myself day or night. Like everything around USC ( just over a mile away) it is a little run down looking in areas and neighbors tend to just put their old couches and giveaways on the curb but it has no noticeable homeless, gang activity or drug dealing, almost no police activity, etc. I moved directly from Venice Beach and I find it very peaceful by comparison. Like most of LA it varies block by block, it's economically depressed, and of course there are elements around the liquor store but my immediate area and my block is particularly safe, quiet and has pride of ownership, in my experience as well as on current crime/ safety maps. I'm just taking this opportunity to describe the area as honestly as I can without anyone being intimidated by the area. It's not trendy, not Beverly Hills, it's Mid-City, Koreatown, West Adams, USC, no different.
