Self contained ground floor apartment of a beautiful old stone house. It's quirky and eclectic with access to the large beautiful garden. The lakes and rivers are very close for swimming or fishing. It's the perfect place to stay to explore the Pyrenees.

The space

This is a two bedroom ground floor apartment of an old stone house so stays very cool in the summer. It sleeps 4 people (2 double rooms, one with a double bed the other with two single beds ) and is perfect for families. NOTE: There is also a cottage directly opposite which sleeps an additional 2 adults and 1 child if you require more space - please see link to 'The Chicken Coop Cottage' to book this: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/6380462

The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob, toaster, fridge freezer and cooking utensils. The lounge is next door which has comfy sofas and a small dining table. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washing machine.

There is a door from the lounge that leads into the beautiful garden for your enjoyment which has a patio, chairs, parasol, hammock and large stone bbq. The garden is shared with the owner who lives in the house but is large enough for you to have privacy if you would like it or to join Zenaida (the owner) for a drink on the patio which has become customary.

The property is located on top of a small hill opposite the village church which boats beautiful panoramic views.

This apartment is full of charm and is decorated in a traditional yet quirky style. Its cool in the summer as its on the ground floor, and children and pets are very welcome. The area is on the border of the stunningly beautiful Ordesa National Park and you will see the Monte Perdido mountain and valley which dominate the skyline from the valley. A fantastic location for summer holidays with lakes and crystal clear rivers in which to swim and cool off, all within 15 minutes of you. There are numerous white water sports, rafting, canoeing and canyoning which you can book in Ainsa (the nearest town) which is 5 minutes away. So if you are into a more sedate pastime there are numerous stunning walks around the area as well as bird watching. There is also fishing in the lakes as well as rivers in which you can buy a license from the hunting & fishing shop in Ainsa. The summers are always hot but being in the Pyrenees it is not the stifling heat of the south. You can also go ski in the skiing season with many Spanish and French resorts close by one of our favourites is Sant Lary over on the French side of the Pyrenees which is 40 mins away. You can book skiing equipment in many outlets on the way to France which we found much cheaper than the French resorts. So there is pretty much something for everyone in this beautiful unspoilt region of Northern Spain.

Guest access

Guest have access to the garden and all the facilities within it i.e. bbq/lounging area etc.

Interaction with guests

The owner, Zenaida, is available if you need anything. She is originally from Spain but has lived in England so speaks fluent English and Spanish. She also speaks very good French.

She can share her local knowledge on the area and give you information on all the walking trails (she has pretty much walked most of the trails!)

Other things to note

Mountain biking is very much on the rise in and around Sobrarbe, the area we are in, has the longest and best mountain bike trecks in Europe. People come from all over the world to spend days on their bikes. A real must...

The location is great for walks in the Ordesa National Park, and the nearby Sobarbe hills. We also enjoyed swimming in the river, and visiting the interesting local towns of Ainsa and Boltana. Ana and her family are lovely hosts - very welcoming, helpful and friendly - they live just upstairs in case you need anything. They gave us all kinds of useful information that helped us to enjoy our stay, and they can speak Spanish and English perfectly. The flat is in a beautiful rustic stone house. It is a little dark, with low ceilings, as it is in the basement, though this is at least good for keeping it cool in Summer. There are some interesting paintings on the walls and some nice old furniture. The garden is a real asset - we ate all our meals at the table there, and enjoyed just chilling out with the crazy cats! We hope we will come again some time.

Beautiful place to stay. Small village but very close to ainsa (which is very impressive). Gardens are fabulous. House is small and dark but perfect for a base to explore the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

We had a terrific time at the nice and cosy house in a quiet surrounding. The family is really friendly and also the garden is a perfect place to relax. It is a good location for walking, mountainbiking and other activities. If possible, we surely will come back!

Small simple flat in a charming place. The flat it self is a little bit old and dark - but well decorated. The garden is a very quiet and beautiful place to rest in. Ana is very warm welcoming. Banaston is very near from Ainsa and ô there places in the Aragones Pirineos.

We loved staying in the flat. The area was very quiet and in the mornings I would sit in the garden and read and take a nap in the hammock many afternoons. The flat was small and cozy with low ceilings - very clean with great art. The town of Ainsa was minutes away for restaurants, bars, lake and river activities or bike rentals. We drove less than an hour to visit rural France and it was so beautiful I wish we had planned an extra day. Ana and her family were sweet an accommodating hosts as well!

Very lovely and charming place. The hosts are very nice (speaking French and English). Conveniently located close to Ainsa. Unfortunately, as the place is old, it's very dusty and not very clean. We had to wash the dishes before using them. The place was so dusty that our son got in trouble with his dust mites allergy. He couldn't sleep in the bed. The day after, we bought him a mattress and a sleeping bag to spend the following night in the kitchen. We washed the floor before ... and we could see that the floor hadn't been washed for a long time. It was so disturbing that we decided to shorten our stay (we booked the place for 3 nights). As we had payed ahead of time and as it was our decision, we had no refund for this extra night.

Response from Ana:
We are very sorry to hear you weren´t happy and it is a complete shock as this is the first feedback we´ve had of this kind. We were told the issue was with the area as your son has allergies. If we were told there was a problem with our property then we would of course have reviewed it and rectified it as necessary but we weren´t told. The property is always cleaned thoroughly. The floors get mopped and dishes get cleaned religiously. We want our guests to be happy which is why we want to know about any future possible incidents, to make life easier and more comfortable for our guests.

I am half Spanish (from my mothers side) and half English but have lived in Spain for many years. I am on airbnb to advertise my mothers beautiful cottages in the Pyrenees. I love music, gardening and football (although all sports are appreciated in my family such as Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Tour de France and any other major sport. We always welcome guests to join us to watch a major sporting event like The WORLD CUP, WIMBLEDON, OLYMPICS or whatever might tickle ones fancy!!! I enjoy life which is very easy to do in Spain. I speak fluent Spanish and am happy to help with any questions or local knowledge needed in this beautiful area. We know the area very well and have enjoyed FISHING, SKIING , HIKING , SWIMMING, ADVENTURE TOURS eg. RAFTING, BARRANCOS, KAYAKING, SMALL AIROPLANES, CLIMBING, MOUNTAIN BIKING ; WE HAVE THE BEST AREA IN EUROPE, THE LONGEST TRACKS AND SOON WILL BE HOLDING THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. A really amazing area for the mountain bikers. Eating out is a pleasure we all enjoy, so there has to be certain standards sometimes, especially on holidays!!! We can, and are happy to advise on all these areas. We joined airbnb a year ago but have hosted for many years and pride ourselves on the good feedback.
