The cabin itself is one step up from tent camping, which is exactly what we were looking for. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations, this isn't for you. However, the place is priced at a great value and the land the cabin sits on is just beautiful. We also visited the nearby reservoir which was beautiful as well. It was so nice to unplug (no cell service) for the weekend and enjoy nature with a warm place to sleep. We will definitely be back!

The place was just as described. Not fancy at all, but a good serviceable base in a beautiful location. If you base your expectations on the written description you should be pleased with this place.

Bring cleaning supplies. Bring EVERYTHING, the bed doesn't hold over 200 pounds total, the futon is covered wth an old moving blanket. The refrigerator doesn't work properly (i reported this last year after our stay). The stove was beyond disgusting! The prices for the same dates as e stayed last year have tripled, its NOT worth the money. This place wreaks of mildew and uses well water which has a very STRONG sulphuric smell, stronger than last year. We LOVED it last year and felt it was well priced, but its gone downhill. A big brown dog running around not leaving us alone, when we have two of our own dogs, made it a challenge to relax with them outdoors. The closest grocery is 45 minutes away. You must take your trash with you a few miles down the road, BUT if you leave on a holiday, as we were scheduled to do last year you will have to take it with you home, or leave a day later. Being three hours from home, we chose to leave a day early and lose the funds paid. If you use the little store down the road, check dates most items are expired. NO cell service or Wifi (which was okay with us, but should be disclosed), and hopefully they mow before you arrive. They did last year, but not this year. Good luck!

Well, I am so very sorry that Mr. Bryant had a bad experience! We truly value our guests and their being able to enjoy an inexpensive, relaxing get-a-way. Mr. Bryant messaged us at 8PM the night before his requested arrival and asked for a 1-night stay. Further asked for discounts. The cottage is VERY rural and we try to be straight-up regarding this. Additionally it is treated as a 'Glamping opportunity' meaning that it is intended as a step above camping - no pitching tents, no worries about a 'rainout', and a bathroom and kitchenette in the cottage, in addition to a private, screened porch out back. There isn't another house/cottage within 1/4 mile of this cottage so we have NO idea where a stray dog may have come from? Indeed the small convenience store located on Savage River Rd is truly an old-fashioned 'general store' with everything from fishing lures, basic foodstuff, and outdoor games; however it is a 1-man operation intended as a convenience for those guests who are camping or glamping and just need an item or two; otherwise for significant grocery shopping one would be wise to drive the 25 minutes to the Deep Creek Resort area where there is a legitimate grocery store, novelty shopping, and an abundance of shopping opportunities. Again we are so very sorry that the previous guest who departed on the day of Mr. Bryant's arrival did not leave the cottage in good condition for Mr. Bryant and we will notify our maintenance man to visit to tighten up anything overlooked. Very much unsure how Mr. Bryant 'left a day early' as his last-minute reservation was for only 1 night. Mr. Bryant stated prior to his arrival that he would also like to book the July 4th weekend and there is a price bump for that; however for Mr. Bryant's 1-night stay the total was a $95 charge. Rates do go up on Holiday weekends due to demand - as I explained to Mr. Bryant. To finish, so very sorry Mr. Bryant that you had a negative experience and that the cottage/area didn't meet your expectations; we suggest your finding something nicer/larger/more resort oriented on your next visit to our area and this cottage is truly designed for the guest looking to have a step up in conveniences from a camping experience.

With rain in the forecast, we booked a space that would be a couple steps up from camping and got exactly what we wanted! This cabin is tucked in a remote location within walking distance to the stream and we fell asleep listening to the water. Our time was spent mostly enjoying reading on the screened in front porch and local hiking. Bringing towels and paper products is a must and we were glad that we brought a cooler while the fridge got cold. We had a couple bugs on the floor but nothing that couldn't be easily swept or shooed away.

Response from Bob:
Thank you for being our guest at Savage River Kristen. Indeed we have set this cottage up as a 'step above camping' as it is so very rural (like a good camping spot after a long hike; however you can drive to steps from the front door) with each guest asked to leave the cottage in a similar or better fashion than they found it. if we had to hire cleaners/inspectors/linen companies to service the cottage the price would no longer be close to what campers are looking for; therefore we ask each guest to treat it like a campsite, policing after themselves and leaving it ready for the next "campers". Why different from camping? No pitching tens; no worries about rain; kitchenette and fridge; comfortable bed, running water, and full bathroom/shower - the life of Riley! Again, thanks for being our guest and we hope to host you again someday!

Loved the place. Bring all your own linens. This is an awesome place and we plan to go again. It is way out there. No cellphone connection, no wi/fi. About 45 minutes to Walmart. Beautiful area. River is about a five minute walk. No A/C but it doesn't get very warm there. Owner was a pleasure to deal with.

If I were just reviewing my interactions with Derek I would give a 5 star review as he was attentive and always got back to me quickly. The area is absolutely beautiful and I bet it is quite stunning in the fall. However, the "cottage" was not the most comfortable and very much needs to be at least slightly overhauled. I am okay with bare bones but I need the place to be clean and it did not feel very clean. Luckily, I brought EVERYTHING with me (towels, linens, pillows, and blankets) because the bedding looked dirty. I would advise bringing plates and flatware as the cabinets have dead bugs lying in the them as do the corners of the shower. The screened in patio was nice and I was able to relax on the swing with some wine and a book with my dog lying on his bed at my feet. There is a lot of property to explore which was fun to do over the weekend.

Michelle, we are sorry about the little critters, as we make every effort to keep our remote vacation cottages and experiences the best they can be. I will be directly looking into it.
