I am Geordie who still has a foot in two places, though my family say I have become a soft southerner because I need to keep my vest on most of the year!.

My husband, Steve, is a Professor of Medicine at Kings and retires at the end of July 2015. We plan to travel / ski / golf / explore like we have not been able to do for many years. Even sitting and walking together will be different!

Newton is the place we visited as children and one of my brothers and my sister live there now. Steve and I have lived and worked in Hertfordshire for 35 years and London is where our 3 children now have set up their homes.

We love sharing our holiday home with friends and family. We thought that, until we have stopped wandering, it would be delightful to have others enjoy Silver Birch and experience the village and the beach. We are also constantly getting asked to put people up for weddings at Newton Hall (5 minutes walk) and Doxford Barns so, through AirBnB, we can offer an option to relax in a family environment. Having been to a zillion weddings, you just know how important that is - especially with granny or the children.

Silver Birch is not posh and nothing can get hurt. I would say that it is a very welcoming home from home. I am relaxed about most things except smoking and pets. This is because our grandson gets a severe allergic reaction when he is in environments where they have been.

I believe that people will respect the house and treat it like their own retreat for a couple of nights and am very relaxed with the ethics of the AirBnB community. I have a passion for good bed linen, good food, coffee and Christmas. We are quite a musical family so there is a piano in the dining (Website hidden by Airbnb) of the appeals of Silver Birch is the lovely secluded garden with a day bed to lounge on which gives shelter from the wind. I often sit at the table in the front of the house in the evening and watch the world going to and fro to the beach or to the pub feeling quite content! The view of the Northern Lights can be quite spectacular.
You will find the parking area very useful. I am saying no more.

My life motto is Carpe Diem, reinforced after an inconvenient episode of cancer in 2011. Walking the dunes and cycling in the hills around Newton and Alnwick have restored my faith and my health.

Love and respect, Jan
