A large, warehouse style apartment on 2 levels facing east. Watch the sun rise over the city skyline. Catch a bus into the city - it's a 7 minute ride - or walk down to the water and do the bay run. Parks, shops, markets, all within an easy walk.

The space

The building, 'Elkington', is a converted cinema built in 1935. My apartment is on the second floor - at the top. Laid out before you a truly stunning vista - the city - bordered on one side by the Harbour bridge and on the other, by the Anzac bridge. The apartment itself is on 2 levels. On the entry level a large living/dining room with high ceilings, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. On the mezzanine floor a bedroom and bathroom. Tree ferns growing in the huge atrium in the middle of the building reach up to a window at one end of the main room.

Guest access

Access to all parts of the apartment and the undercover parking. Use the grey swipe key to get into the building and also the parking. The parking entrance is around the corner on Thornton Street.

Interaction with guests

Lygia will be on call to offer help at any time.

Other things to note

If you want to dispose of any garbage, the rubbish bins are in the garage behind the doors at the back. Bins are sorted into papers and cardboard - blue lid, plastics and bottles - yellow lid, and general household rubbish. There is also compost recycling. Under the kitchen sink you will find a roll of green bags. The compost bin is the bin with the deep red lid in the basement.

Christine provided quick replies and information about getting to the apartment. Welcomed with a bottle of sparkling wineGreat sunny clean apartment with tall ceilings. Good kitchen to do your own cooking. Comfortable double bed in the upstairs room with morning sun to wake you up. My colleague on the downstairs bed did not have any complaints. Bus stops outside the apartment complex which take you to the Balmain East wharf for the darling harbour ferry, or into City via the suburbs. Or walk to the main road for a direct bus. Minimal noise at night as traffic drops off. Each room has its own bathroom. We used the last ferry from circular quay at 23:35 to the Balmain east wharf -there is a bus (444) that arrives 5 minutes afterwards to drop us off outside the apartment complex. Very enjoyable stay with free wifi. Will look for this place when we travel again to Sydney. Had an outstanding meal at the local Indian restaurant Nithik's. Used the local Healthfood shop 'About Life" a few times for coffee, food, and drinks.

The apartment was simple but lovely. It was perfect for what we needed, and walking distance to restaurants and pubs. The only things I could fault were being the middle of winter we could have done with some thicker blankets on the beds, we woke up freezing because the sheets were quite thin. I also think the $100 cleaning fee was a bit steep considering we were only there for 1 night, and all that needed to be done would have been a load of washing (beddings/towels) and the rubbish taken down to the bin. These things aside I would definitely stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

What a great place! This converted warehouse brings out the true character of Balmain's history. The accomodation was comfortable and spacious, and had everything we needed during our stay. Kim was fantastic in her communication and was always within reach if we needed anything. We felt very welcome. Our only concern, which we should mention, is that the internet quality was average. In our case, we were staying for a few weeks before moving overseas and quality internet was important for us to successfully work up until when we left. If this was improved, it would be 5 out of 5 stars from us! I would highly recommend this place if you're visiting Sydney and don't want to be stuck in a tiny apartment. This is ideal!
