Lovely home in spacious grounds, in an olive grove, with lovely rural views. 10 kms from either Greytown or Carterton. Two bedrooms ($150 each, for two people) , each with queen bed & ensuite. Great for children ($30 each, 3 - 12 years, on sleeping platforms). An additional adult can use sleeping platforms($40 each). Rustic cabin available ($80), with composting toilet. The shower facilities in main house. Wheelchair access. Warm in winter and if top windows are opened, cool in summer.

The space
The house is a uniquely designed, light and airy home, situated in a very peaceful and private setting in an olive grove. Within the spacious gardens there is a short bush walk, many places to sit and relax under the trees, rolly polly hills and large grassed areas for children (or adults) to play, plus sporting equipment, an outdoor draughts/chess set and a bush walk. An outdoor bath under the glorious Wairarapa night skies is a special treat. Access to the Waiohine River is close by. Bicycles for all age groups are available. Staying in the rustic cabin hidden in the grove is very special. (See other Airbnb listing or olivehomestay website.) This AirB&B website does not provide for prepayment for children ($30 each) or single adult ($40) travelling with other guests. Cash payment is expected before departure but please advise me in advance.

Where you’ll be

Carterton , Wellington, New Zealand

My home is a very special place for small children with lots of toys and outdoor spaces. It is located in the middle of rural Wairarapa with cows, sheep and deer for neighbours. The Waiohine River is very close by and it is a lovely river for children to play in. However, it only takes 10 minutes to drive to the centre of Greytown, (which has great boutique shopping), or Carterton and 25 minutes to Martinborough, the home of great wineries, or to Masterton. The Waiohine Gorge with its swing bridge, bush walks and safe river swimming is a special treat. The Pukaha Bird Sanctuary is worth a visit, as are the beaches, light houses, country pubs and restaurants and cafes in The Wairarapa.

I was raised on a dairy farm in the US and after work in Europe, the Carribean and travel, I married a man I met when in New Zealand on an exchange programme and we moved to Canada. We settled in NZ in 1974. After raising a family and a career in several NGOs and the public sector, I bought land in the heart of dairy country in the Wairarapa and planted an olive grove. I have a beautiful site which I love and continue to work on almost daily. I really enjoy sharing it with family, friends and homestay guests. It is my goal to make my guests feel like my personal guests. I have been lucky and travelled to many places so I feel I can make people from varied cultures feel welcome. We travel for fun and I try to contribute to my guests' fun. I confess to being a bit gregarious! And hungry for new experiences and meeting new people.

During your stay

I welcome my guests personally and usually share breakfast with them. I not only want to enjoy their company over breakfast but assist them with planning their trip in the Wairarapa or finding services which they require.
