Enjoy the charm of this spacious apartment with its delightful open plan kitchen & living area. It has direct access to our peaceful internal courtyard and garden and is located just below the Citadel hilltop park and only 5 minutes to the main square.

The space
This apartment, located on the ground floor, has been recently renovated. It is located in an old manor house which dates back to the 14th century.

From the stone stairway you enter a large open plan kitchen which also includes the dining and lounge area in front of an open fireplace. The kitchen area is centered around a large granite work bench with lots of space.

From the lounge you go up 2 stairs to another room which includes a TV / DVD and stereo with a 3 seater fold down couch. From the lounge/dining room you go through to the main double bedroom which has an en suite bathroom (toilet and shower).

Guest access
There is plenty of free parking near the apartment and it is possible to drive to the bottom of rue St Mary to unload luggage. The apartments are located in a charming stone house which stands in a quiet cobble stoned street and leads to the Citadel where a 13th century castle once stood. Today the Notre Dame de Provence Chapel stands in its place and commands a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. The Citadel, as the hill is passionately known by the locals, is a real ‘green oases in the centre of town and a beautiful spot for an early morning or evening stroll.

Other things to note
Touring bikes can be hired in the town. The Forcalquier region is famous for its wonderful cycling path which leads all the way to Cavaillon near Avignon, a distance of 100 kms. Otherwise there are plenty of quiet country lanes which are suitable for cycling. We can help you with information.

There are also 500 km’s of marked walking tracks in the region. Basically the area forms a square bordered by 2 mountain ranges to the North and South and by 2 rivers to the East and West. It is ideal for walking as there is an immense variety of landscapes influenced by both a continental climate from the Alps and a Mediterranean climate from the south. We are happy to discuss the different walks with you.

Sorry, no schoolies and no pets.

Forcalquier, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

We think our place is pretty unique as its only minutes from the center of town but located on the edge of the Citadel hilltop Park which is a real green oasis. People can never believe how quiet and peaceful it is.

We are so lucky to live in this beautiful village called Forcalquier in Upper Provence. We have been welcoming people to our lovely apartments for the last 15 years. Our guests seem to love the central location and peaceful atmosphere which our charming apartments offer. We enjoy sharing our local knowledge of this beautiful and "off the beaten" side of Provence. We have used Airbnb for the last 8 years and really enjoy the type of guests the site attracts. More recently we are spending more time back in our "homeland" Australia and last year we purchased a beautiful property in Suffolk Park Byron Bay - it is such a relaxing and special part of the world! The house is just a short walk to lovely Tallow Beach and the property itself has a gorgeous 10m salt pool and large spa plus a breezy Balinese zen hut, where you can start the day with meditation and yoga. Hope to see you soon in Forcalquier or Byron Bay :-) Happy Traveling, The Clarke's

During your stay
Gabriela and I also operate a walking tour company so sometimes we are away on tour - when we are home we are happy to discuss the "must do's " in the area. We have a list of our favourite things to do in the area in our Information Folder. If we are not home our friend Cecile who is a local artist will greet you, check you in and give you information about the area.

Forcalquier has a population of 4,500 and from the Apartments it is a 5 minute walk to the centre of town. Here you can buy everything you need for your stay in Forcalquier. There are numerous bakers, a butcher, an excellent fruit and vegetable shop, pastry and chocolate shop, 2 supermarkets, delicatessen and very good wine shop (there are also 2 large Supermarkets at each end of the town) 3 banks, Post Office, 2 chemists and a news agency. Of course there are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. We have a list of the ones we recommend and we are only too happy to talk about the other ones we take our groups to in the nearby villages.

Of course one of the big attractions of Forcalquier is the Monday morning market. It is renowned as being one of the most colourful in Provence and of course one can do the weekly shopping direct from the producers. There is an enormous range of food available - local cheeses, fruit and vegetables, organic breads, herbs and spices, fresh fish from Marseille, Provencal fabrics and pottery etc.
