The Barn Loft apartment is a recently renovated 3 BR apartment, perfect for vacationers, retreats, reunions, or wedding parties. Access to outdoor seating and garden. Close to charming Damariscotta, beaches, historic sites, galleries, shopping, & restaurants.

The space

We are less than a mile from downtown Damariscotta, with its charming harbor, shops, awesome theater, and even more awesome bookstore. Lots of wonderful restaurants around, and we have written a Guest Book that highlights some of our favorite spots. We offer our guests the use of a beach umbrella and two beach chairs, a bathroom with hairblower and washer/dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen. There is a portable full-length mirror, especially for those prepping for a special occasion! We've created this space with writers and artists in mind, and know you'll find the Barn Loft is a quiet comfortable space to do great work or to simply relax and enjoy our beautiful part of Maine.

Guest access

We have outdoor seating on the open deck (wrought iron chairs and coffee table), and a picnic table and umbrella, that guests are welcome to use. Amy has a large flower garden and vegetable garden, and welcomes visitors -- please stay on the paths, and if you want some veggies or some flowers, just ask! The side yard, the screened porch, and our home, are our private space and we appreciate your respecting those boundaries.

Interaction with guests

Yes, we will be around to answer questions and offer tips if you like! We're eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Best to reach out to Amy first, as Will is working most of the time in his studio and gallery.

Other things to note

The TV offers Netflix, and there is a dvd player only. Please note that cable is not provided. If you are a sports fan and there's a big game you cannot miss, there is a local sports bar (great chicken wings!) right near us.

Wifi is free!

We have two dogs on the property -- both very friendly, and we never allow them up in the Barn Loft. They are occasionally out in the yard, but we will make every effort to keep them separate from you, if you have any concerns. MacKenzie is a senior female yellow lab and very sweet. Gordon is a young brown mutt, very enthusiastic and cheery.

We are in a quiet neighborhood and appreciate guests respecting that especially in the early morning and late evenings. Will operates his art studio and gallery on the first floor of the barn. Art is a quiet business (!), and we assure you, you won't be disturbed. Please NOTE: There is no smoking in the Barn Loft, and if you smoke outside on the property we request that you dispose of the butts properly. No pets allowed. We, the hosts, have two dogs in our own home and they are occasionally out in the yard, but they have NO ACCESS to the Barn Loft Apartment. The Apartment is totally pet-free. If you are uncomfortable around dogs, please let us know. We will keep the dogs completely separate from you during your stay.

This is a great location for families. I stayed with my husband, 10 month old and mother for a wedding weekend. It's close to the 1812 Farm and a short drive away from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, in addition to the charming town of Damariscotta and other nice locations. There is no air conditioning, but the windows open and there are tall, large fans in the bedrooms and living area which helped. The beds and linens are super comfortable. Nightlights were a nice touch and there is no need for cable with the Roku that has Netflix. Great fridge with ice/water machine, excellent water pressure in the kitchen and the shower as well. The shower even has a place to sit and there was a blow dryer & a small bottle of shampoo & a soap bar provided. We were pleasantly surprised to find detergent for the washer (though we didn't get a chance to use it) and soap for washing dishes (of which there were plenty in the cabinets). We love the art on the walls, the decor and the super handy binder with menus for local places. The back garden was gorgeous and the area was quiet for a good night's sleep. If needed each of the 3 bedrooms have locks on the doors. The closet space was also great as well and we had plenty of room for our son's pack & play in the bedroom. There are also extra trash bags and a shed outside for garbage. There were fresh towels, extra toilet paper and paper towels as well. Amy was also quick to reply to any questions prior to booking and was easy to get a hold of to update regarding our ETA. Overall, we would highly recommend this location for families or a group traveling together. All the little touches are top notch and it really felt like a home away from home.

We (my parents, my brother & his fiancé, and myself) absolutely loved our stay at Amy and Will's barn loft apartment. We were warmly welcomed by Amy and her sweet dogs upon arrival in somewhat of a rush to get ready for a family wedding being held in a town nearby. The space is bright, charming, and clean--with MORE than the comforts of home! We found the guidebooks prepared by our hosts (and Amy's wise advice) to be extremely helpful in helping us get the most of our limited unscheduled time over the weekend. My parents were totally impressed by their first experience with Airbnb. The only advice I can offer for prospective guests is to leave yourself more time to enjoy the apartment and gardens! Our family certainly hopes to make it back someday for a longer weekend with more time for R&R :)

Response from Amy:
If you ever want tips on events or areas that might help you plan a future visit, please contact me! So happy to offer thoughts on fun weekends or one-day events. We add to our list every year, and are learning about activities for all age groups. We might be able to help you craft a good visit to the area. We just rediscovered a gem of a little Maine cafe in Union yesterday, for example. This is the stuff we love to share! So feel free to contact us any time. We'd love to have you stay with us, and there are other AirBnB's in our area for smaller groups, in case you have friends that want to come up, too. Glad the peaches were a hit! :)

Spectacular experience staying here with two young kids and husband for a family vacation. Location is great -- so close to town and not far from Pemaquid, beaches, etc. "the barn loft" is a humble name for such a beautiful space with every amenity taken care of and even larger than the pictures can convey. Beautiful gallery and artwork just below making us fall in love with the area even more. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

The barn loft apartment was just what we were looking for ! It is in a beautiful, peaceful location with convenient access to downtown, route 1, and many peninsulas. Amy was very sweet and thoughtful, we felt well taken care of! The apartment gave a feel of quaint, coastal Maine. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone! Thank you again, Amy!

Super-host! Our first Airbnb experience will be hard to top! Apartment was exactly as described; plenty of room for the 6 of us. Immaculate, brand new appliances, views of the garden.... Great spot too. Walking distance to Dameriscotta and not far from Pemuquid Point Lighthouse. Highly recommended.
