Our 1890s workers' cottage has been lovingly styled, evoking the feel of a Scandinavian summer home. Peakville Haus is set within a quaint, sleepy hamlet in a cul de sac in the mountains, with views of the western Catskills.

The space

Our house dates to 1890 and was originally built as a workers' cottage for the local logging and bluestone enterprises (fun fact: the bluestone used for the Empire State Building in NYC is from our local quarries). It is a comfortable, charming jewel box of a house, outfitted in a clean and modern style.

Enjoy dinner or a drink on the bluestone patio, with views of the mountains, sunsets, and starry skies. A gas grill is available for your use. Garden steps lead up to a higher plateau of the property, and two Adirondack Chairs with a sweeping view of the southwestern Catskill Mountains.

There are two bedrooms upstairs: the master bedroom is spacious with a double bed, natural light and mountain views, and the guest bedroom is small and cozy, with double bed and Edwardian reading chair with lamp. There is a central, shared full bathroom through which you enter both bedrooms; the layout is a charming quirk of a historic house, but does require some polite knocking before making an entrance.

Downstairs, the kitchen is open-plan and fully stocked, with gas range, plenty of cookware, and an island with barstools that serves as a comfortable breakfast counter. The long dining table seats up to eight people.

The living room has two sofas and seating around a wood-burning stove and streaming entertainment center. The front sunroom is flooded with light, with a work desk, reading chair, and comfortable daybed (that can also accommodate an additional guest).

Be sure to peek out the front windows to spot the wide variety of birds that visit the feeder in the front yard!

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Peakville Haus. Clayton and Jeffrey were very responsive and easy to communicate with regarding our stay. The house was charming, clean and comfortable for our family of 4. We would highly recommend this home to anyone who is traveling to that area of the Catskills.

I booked a stay at Clayton & Jeffrey's for my boss and her family, when they went upstate for a weekend wedding. She wanted something both charming and nice, and their home exceeded her expectations. She was very happy and her family really enjoyed themselves!!!

This is perfect for a couple or a few friends looking to get away from it all - or in or case alternative to motel/hotel lodging on visiting day for kids in sleepaway camp. The house is so much more beautiful in person. It's meticulously designed in mid-modern Scandinavian design with beautiful attention to detail. The property's beautiful and peaceful. It was beyond clean and has everything u need for a very comfortable relaxing stay. The house does not have a/c but at nite was very cool and the ceiling fans were perfect. This house is very well kept and the owners were always available and are incredible hosts. The house handbook has everything u need to know. We have stayed in many homes and are very picky and I can say that this house is both country and modern and just very special and we will be back soon! Thanks u Clayton and Jeffrey for a fabulous stay! Nicole

We had a lovely stay at Clayton and Jeffrey's home. The house is a delight -- gorgeous, inviting, comfortable, lovingly designed, clean, and relaxing. We quickly felt welcomed by Clayton and Jeffrey and communication with them was quick and easy. It is clear that Clayton and Jeffrey take a deep interest in the home's history and architecture and it was lovingly conveyed in the welcome guide, as were helpful suggestions on places of interest, restaurants, shops, etc., nearby. Clayton and Jeffrey couldn't be more gracious hosts, and we hope to stay there in the future when we visit the area.

Clayton and Jeffrey's home is very warm and clean, located on top of a short hill among peaceful suroundings. Their bright design touches throughout the house, binder filled with information about the house and area and hospitality from the beginning through the effortless check out made the stay very enjoyable. We would recommend this home to anyone planning a trip to the area.

Jeffrey & Clayton are the best hosts! The house has everything you need for cooking- fantastic, upscale pots & pans along with every kind of baking dish or grilling apparatus you will need. We used the grill every evening, cooking meat and vegetables we bought at local farmers markets. The property is gorgeous, and we had a wonderful 4th of July holiday laying on the grass, drinking sangria and taking long walks along the river. The house is an impeccable ode to simple, Scandinavian white farmhouse living in the Catskills, with modern touches and incredible artwork. We will be stealing many decorating techniques, and learned a lot about how to create a comforting space in a small sized, older house. The modern updates they have made makes the farmhouse comfortable, cool, and gorgeous- replete with stunning touches like white washed wooden ceilings and floors, and reclaimed light fixtures. We will definitely be returning, and give these two high marks for hospitality. Checking in and out of the house was easy, and they have created a welcoming environment that makes it easy to get cozy and read a good book. A true break from the city, if that's where you're coming from. Thank you, Clayton & Jeffrey!
