Our 1890s workers' cottage has been lovingly styled, evoking the feel of a Scandinavian summer home. Peakville Haus is set within a quaint, sleepy hamlet in a cul de sac in the mountains, with views of the western Catskills.
Our house dates to 1890 and was originally built as a workers' cottage for the local logging and bluestone enterprises (fun fact: the bluestone used for the Empire State Building in NYC is from our local quarries). It is a comfortable, charming jewel box of a house, outfitted in a clean and modern style.
Enjoy dinner or a drink on the bluestone patio, with views of the mountains, sunsets, and starry skies. A gas grill is available for your use. Garden steps lead up to a higher plateau of the property, and two Adirondack Chairs with a sweeping view of the southwestern Catskill Mountains.
There are two bedrooms upstairs: the master bedroom is spacious with a double bed, natural light and mountain views, and the guest bedroom is small and cozy, with double bed and Edwardian reading chair with lamp. There is a central, shared full bathroom through which you enter both bedrooms; the layout is a charming quirk of a historic house, but does require some polite knocking before making an entrance.
Downstairs, the kitchen is open-plan and fully stocked, with gas range, plenty of cookware, and an island with barstools that serves as a comfortable breakfast counter. The long dining table seats up to eight people.
The living room has two sofas and seating around a wood-burning stove and streaming entertainment center. The front sunroom is flooded with light, with a work desk, reading chair, and comfortable daybed (that can also accommodate an additional guest).
Be sure to peek out the front windows to spot the wide variety of birds that visit the feeder in the front yard!
You will have the whole house to yourselves.
