Canoe, kayak, swim or lounge on the beach while eagles soar overhead. Cook in a professional kitchen and dine/relax on the screened porch overlooking the Hudson. 15 min. from Hudson Amtrak; close to the Catskills, Hunter/Windham mtns.

The space

This is a one-of-a-kind vacation home located on the Hudson River. The upstairs has a master bedroom (queen size bed) facing the Hudson; two guest bedrooms (each with a full size bed); and a large bathroom facing the Hudson with shower and clawfoot tub. The main floor is an open plan with a living area, dining area, and fully-equipped kitchen (with stove/microwave, toaster oven, food processor, stand mixer, and wide range of pots, pans, and utensils. a 10'x30' screened in porch has a large dining table and comfortable chairs to relax with a full river view.

Guest access

You will have access to the main floors of the house plus the basement for the washer and dryer, as well as the backyard and beach. Guests may NOT use the kayak or canoe but there is a kayak rental company in Athens, NY, about 15 minutes South of Coxsackie. The beach is lovely and the Hudson is rated swimmable. The river is tidal (it flows both ways twice a day), and the tides can make swimming against them difficult. The Hudson is also an active shipping river, and you will see giant barges coming up and down the river. (They are too big to stop for swimmers and kayakers/canoers, so it is important to stay out of the center of the river.) Please exercise caution if you do swim, and remember that all activities are at the guests' own risk.

Interaction with guests

I may be nearby during your stay. If I am not here, a friend will be available for assistance.

Other things to note

The Hudson River is rated swimmable in Coxsackie. However, your use of the river is entirely at your own risk.

My wife and I had such a wonderful month at Nevin's house it's almost hard to know where to begin with a review. I've stayed at many airbnbs and this was my favorite home by far. The location is perfect - amazing panoramic river views of the Hudson River (we even saw bald eagles!) beautiful sunrises and sunsets, secluded and peaceful - but a short walk from the developing hip town of Coxsackie. The home is well designed too, with an open floor plan main area with windows everywhere, and an amazing kitchen. If you like to cook, this is an added benefit. We just switched between cooking in the huge kitchen and the gas grill right outside (and there's an amazing local farmers market open 7 days a week about 10 minutes away). A perfect retreat for artists, or a family, we'd highly recommend a stay at Nevin's place!

Response from Nevin:
So glad you guys enjoyed the house. We missed being up there this month, and plan to head up most of the rest of the summer. You're more than welcome to visit and stay in one of the guest bedrooms. Swimming in the river is great mid-summer, and of course the fall colors are spectacular. Hope your tour goes well and enjoy the rest of the summer. Hope to meet up at some point. -Nevin

Very warm house well decorated and benefitting from a great location only a few yards from the river. Recommend this place for a week end getaway of the city!

I'm a born and bred New Yorker, but I love to spend weekends at my home on the Hudson, where I enjoy swimming, relaxing on the beach, kayaking, and writing while occasionally gazing out at the river. While I'm here I bake bread, garden a bit, have friends over for dinner, and just relax. I enjoy cycling and running on the back roads of Greene County, and hiking in the Catskills. My favorite seasons up here are Fall and Spring. During the week I'm a professor, researching and teaching about urban food policy and health.
