Gorgeous brand new 2-bedroom wooden cottages set in beautiful gardens within the rice-fields at the back of a traditional Balinese compound. Complete with full bathroom and kitchen amenities, this is the perfect place to watch real Bali life.

The space

My husband's uncle recently finished building these two wooden cottages at the back of his family compound - they are brand new, just completed a few months ago.

Set off a quiet road in the rice fields of Mas, just 15 minutes drive from Ubud, this is the perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle, sit back and enjoy village life. The houses are walled off from the family compound so you'll have complete privacy but still be able to benefit from the advantages of staying with a Balinese family.

Each house has 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed, bathroom, kitchen and dining area and a large front porch seating area. There are rice field views and ornamental gardens to both the front and the rear.

Wi-fi is provided via 20Mbps cable broadband and each house also has a television (Ayu cottage has cable TV with international channels), fridge and gas stove for cooking. Tea, coffee, sugar, water, soap, towels and bed linens are all provided.

As these houses are brand new we're running a special low promo price so you could get a real bargain. If you wish to book for a large group, you can book both houses, giving space for up to 8 people - please contact me for a special rate.

Please note, to be clear, the booking is for one house (2 bedrooms). both houses are identical inside and just have slightly different garden spaces outside - Please see my other listing for the other house. if you want to book out both houses, please contact me first.

Want more space or to be closer to Ubud? Check out our other wooden house:

Guest access

The houses have a separate entrance from the family home and the houses themselves are separated for privacy with a fence and bamboo. The houses are accessible by car and there is a secure garage for parking.

Interaction with guests

The Balinese family that owns these houses are just next door if you need anything and they'll be around to clean and provide breakfast if you request it. You'll be welcome to visit the family compound to find out more about traditional Balinese life. I'm also available if needed - just call me and I'll come down if I can.

Other things to note

Please note breakfast and transport to Ubud are not included in the daily rate. Most guests rent motorbikes but if you would like daily dropoff and pickup in Ubud, please let me know so I can negotiate a lower rate with the owner :) one-way this usually costs 50k.

The grounds surrounding the villa are exceptional and beautiful yet beware of the actual villa itself. It was filthy dirty when I arrived. There was one dirty pan to cook with and dirty dishes. Even after they attempted to rectify the situation and clean the place bugs and ants were everywhere and cobwebs are lining the ceilings. May be a nice place to stay for a night or two but if you are looking for long term it does not have the amenities to accommodate and the nature of the area makes it extremely dirty and bug ridden on a regular basis. The area is quiet and enjoyable and the rice paddies are beautiful and so if the front area of the villa.

The place is simple and sweet. Beautiful view in the morning. Rachel's brother-in-law is very helpful, we arrived late night and he helped us with our check in. Will definitely stay here again for a getaway from the city life..

Reserved 3 nights but due to lots of ants we could stay only two days. Too countryside and most of drivers didn't know this place.

Great stay at Rachel's villa. Easy communication via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and AirBnB, so check-in and out were very comfortable. Gede was very kind and helpful with everything we needed. The villa was clean and nice and it just took us about 10mins to reach Ubud by scooter. Would definitely recommend to stay here!

A perfect house in a quiet and relaxing area. We had everything we needed with a nice Kitchen and two cosy rooms. Everything clean and tidy.

The hosts are very nice and kind. They were very attentive to our needs and they even provide is a cellphone to reach them if needed. The place is as nice as the pictures! Altough it's remote from central town (20 min) it's perfect for a relax getaway!

I rented both of Rachel's cottages on the compound. It was such a great "home" for my home for my group of friends while visiting Ubud. The cottages are brand new and offer a rustic feel. It was wonderful to wake up to the sounds of nature and get away from the busy streets of Ubud. Mas, the area where the compound in located, is filled with kind local people and a small but tasty selection of street foods. Gede, Rachel's brother-in-law, lives next door and helped up with everything from laundry to motorbike rental. Each cabin has two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom. Clean linens, towels and mosquito nets were also provided. A great choice for a group of any age that is looking for a serene getaway.

I'm from the UK but have been living in Bali since 2009. My husband is Balinese, we have 2 children and live in a traditional family compound near Ubud.
