Dear Gwen, Thank you for your generous and honest review. I appreciate it. You and your group were really amazing guests thank you!! I do my utmost to make sure that my guests enjoy their stay, despite any issues I have (and of course there is always something in these old, historic and protected buildings) . I would publicly like to reflect on my next door neighbour and building works issues.
The big building works in the apartment building have finished, however there maybe days when they are working on the inside of the attic which could have been the source for the noise. Unfortunately I do not know when it happens and I was not aware of works happening recently.
As for my next door neighbour - yes she is a big problem for me because the two of us we share a corridor which is part of the building common space, but she pretty much handles it as her own - her late husband was building manager a couple of decades ago). As you stayed for a week, you were more exposed to her and her madness compared to my other guests, who generally stay for 3 or 4 days. I have asked the building manager just now to give her a warning not to listen to the radio loudly at any time of the day (especially at 6.45 am in the morning.) It is against the building rules. I wish we could buy her flat, but she will not sell. The old ladies and some tenants are a problem in other old Budapest buildings as well. The flavour of Budapest for you :) The other lady by the lift has mental issues, but fortunately she is not too close to the flat. It is not easy to do airbnb in these buildings and most buildings now are not allowing their tenants to do short term, airbnb type rentals.
