The perfect romantic hideaway, Lantern Cottage takes you back in time - but with 21st century amenities. Set in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside, it's still only 15 minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon and ideally located for touring the Cotswolds.

The space
Lantern Cottage will take you back in time with its inglenook fireplace and huge woodburner (FREE logs), exposed beams, antiques and curtains drawn against the cold - or the heat. It's wooden beams everywhere apart from the kitchen, which has all the white goods you could want but in stainless steel!

Unfortunately, because of Covid , we can no longer offer you the well stocked food cupboards that are our hallmark. Instead, we are providing a selection of individually wrapped teas, instant and ground coffee, white and brown sugar, a packet of quality biscuits and a small pack of chocolates. There will be milk in the fridge.

When the weather is fine, you can eat in the pretty walled garden under an umbrella to the sound of a wall fountain.

Guest access
You will have the cottage to yourself. It is set in a tiny hamlet of seven houses, and you reach the cottage from a very short (thirty paces) communal path. Just past the cottage, there is a shed with a freezer, which you're welcome to use, a rotary airer and a barbecue. It's not locked, because we have country ways. But do lock the cottage up!

Other things to note
There is no garage or reserved parking, as the cottages easily pre-date cars - and more - but you can park outside along The Bank. The most you will have to walk from your car, if you are unlucky, is three minutes.

My minimum booking is three days except during July and August, when it is a week.

It is a tiny hamlet in Old Marlcliff, where there's no street lighting. So, you can see the stars really clearly. You wake up to birdsong, and can follow the public footpath to the River Avon and Bidford one way (20 minutes), and a lane to the lock, the other (10 minutes). It's a very lovely rural setting - but within easy access of Stratford for the theatre (15 minutes by car) and Cheltenham (45 minutes). The epicentre of the Cotsworlds, it's a perfect starting point for touring the picturebook towns, stately homes and superb gardens.

I am sociable, friendly and energetic. I work as a freelance editor for a subscription magazine that targets directors and managers of day nurseries. I also do some PR, web copy and so on. I squeeze round that the theatre, film, live events, and, when at home, I read, listen to music and the radio and play on the computer. I also have an allotment, am a pretty good cook - hence, the very practical, well-resourced kitchen in my holiday let. And I walk miles with my two dogs. Much much more, but no room to list it all.

During your stay
Because of Covid, it is best for you to collect the keys and let yourself in (the instructions are in my final-details letter to guests), but I am always there at the end of a phone, and my concierge lives 10 minutes away. So, if there are any problems - they happen in the best households - we can sort them out between us. No problem unresolved to date!
