Tom and Dee moved to southwest Virginia four years ago from the Washington DC area. Dee is a retired Interior Designer. Tom works in the Alternative Energy field. We have a beautiful rescue dog, named Cassie who is hypo-allergic and is a silky terrier.
We are really enjoying the more relaxed pace this quaint town offers. We enjoy many outdoor activities amongst the abundance of nature here - the Virginia Creeper Trail, South Holston Lake, the Appalachian Trail. Abingdon also has excellent performing arts, including the Barter Theatre, both Main Stage and Stage II. The Heartwood on Exit 14 boasts of local art and a fun wine bar and dining area.
You'll find a lot of beautiful historic homes on Main Street and Valley Street and local shops and restaurants of interest along Main Street. The locally owned restaurants tend to close on Sunday and Monday. We can guide you to eating places even on those days. In the summer there are free Thursday night open air concerts, great plays on weekends (all year round) and a bustling Farmers Market on Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon during the spring, summer and fall. Many people travel from surrounding states to bike on the 35 mile bike path between Abingdon and Whitetop Mountain at the North Carolina border.
Bikes can be rented and shuttles are available in Abingdon and Damascus. A great little health food shop is located at the foot of the trail in Abingdon for snacks, sandwiches and all sorts of interesting beverages, including a juice bar.
So come and join us for a night, a weekend or longer. We like meeting new people and will let you know where all the hot spots are. If you prefer to be independent and find your own favorite places, we will be happy to accommodate your wishes.
You'll have your own private floor including the master suite and bath. We have a lovely deck and backyard to sit and relax in and have a morning cup of coffee outdoors or a glass of wine in the afternoon or evening.
