A house on 2 levels with an upper sea view non ac living room that doubles up as a second bedroom and a lower ac bedroom with kitchenette bathroom and dining. You will have to share the house sometimes with birds/squirrels or wildlife which are an integral part of this almost tree house like in the midst of nature. If you are looking for a clinically clean or fearful of what nature has to offer then we have other rooms and houses on the same property. This is a Auroville facility

The space

We have 20 other rooms in 6 houses spread over a 8 acre property on the beach with a 350m sea frontage. A very quiet location for those wanting peace and tranquility.

The house is not like on the foto's. It is to expensive for what you get. A nice pool but the house is realy old and not looked after. The upper room is some parts open just covered with maze but there are a lot of big holes in the maze wich makes it a great party for all sorts of animals. My advice take a sleepingbag if you go there. The main problem is that the house is old wich makes you have a lot of hygenic problems, also with animals who leave some things behind in the house and bed, also mosquito and other bites even with the mosquito net. And it is way to much money for what you get (70 euro a night with the airbnb fee). No wifi in the house. My advice to the owner. Either you make it half the price at least or you renovate the house. I do have to say it's a great pool and close to the beach and the staff is very nice and helpfull. It could be something nice if they make some changes.

The place is not exactly as listed. It is more rundown and unkempt than the pictures suggest. Also there is no AC and the wifi is iffy. Furthermore, the beach in front of the property abuts a large village, and given that about 70% of rural India doesn't have access to sanitation, the beach serves that purpose. Walks on the beach can be a bit challenging on the nose - particularly in the morning! The main redeeming features of the place are the pool and the view of the beach (which is best descried from a discreet distance). The breakfast is pretty decent too. All in all, I would say the place is quite expensive for the level of amenities, comfort and scenic-ness.

First of all, the location of the place is so remote and interior that it was a challenge to locate it as there were no boards which specifically mentioned 'Wooden Chalet.' On Airbnb there is no mention of the place being called 'Tanto's Beach Resort' and in reality there was only a tiny little board to guide us. The host was not available on site. The manager called Rekha, however, was very helpful but had her hands too full as she manged the entire place all by herself. Next, we were very disappointed with the upkeep and maintenance of the chalet. Only the bottom room has AC and going in the peak summer month of May it was impossible to stay and sleep in the room upstairs. Despite paying for the entire chalet, four of us were forced to be cramped up in only one small room. I must mention that the photographs put up on airbnb are totally outdated and are a striking contrast to what we saw in reality. The bedsheets were stained and unwashed. On airbnb the place looks so clean but in reality the bathroom was pathetic with rust and hard water stains on the floor and shower fixtures. The HEALTH faucet was rusted as well! The cutlery in the kitchen was old and rusted too. There was so much junk thrown behind the property. It just put my whole family off. Coming to the food part...the place is so isolated that you can't go out and eat on your own. You are forced to order in from Tanto's restaurant which is again far away, situated in Auroville. Even though we had specified for a dish without mushroom from Tanto's, the risotto was filled with mushroom. The kitchen on the property was not functional and breakfast was served, along with a swarm of flies hovering around! However, on a positive note, the natural beauty of the place was great. The pool was very clean and well maintained. Our experience at the beach was great as well. Once again, I really appreciate Rekha's efforts! If you are prepared to live a truly rustic lifestyle, this place is meant for you!

This was one of my first not-so-happy experiences with an airbnb accommodation. There were some good and some bad things about this place, but for us the experience of the latter outweighed the former. The bad – •When we arrived at the place, we were told that the AC in the room we had booked was leaking, so they gave us a room in another unit, which we were told we could occupy for one night until the AC in our originally booked room was fixed. •Since we were not happy shifting rooms after one night during a holiday, we requested to let us keep the room we were occupying, to which we were told that it would cost us Rs. 2000 extra per night for the remaining 3 nights, so Rs. 6000 extra because although this was just one room with a balcony, as against the 2 storey wooden chalet with a bedroom and an upper deck which was more than twice the size (also listed by the host as an accommodation for 2-4 guests), we were told that since this room was part of a 4 bedroom self-contained unit with its own swimming pool, we had to shell out this additional amount if we wanted to continue occupying it. So we had to oblige. •This room was clearly not checked for maintenance because several light bulbs had blown out and the pressure of the water in the overhead shower of the bathroom was so low, that it was almost impossible to have a proper shower. When we bought this to Sheril’s notice, we were told that they would install a pressure pump for future guests. •The place was over-rustic to our liking, so much so that there were creepy crawlies throughout the premises, in our bed, in our bathroom linen, in the basin, in the pot, and also in our toiletries which was not at all pleasant. •The general lighting along the pathways of the resort was so poor or not even there at places, that we had to use the torch in our cell phones to walk around the place after dark. •The House Rules on the listing said “There is no consumption of Alcohol in the compound either”, and although we completely respected this rule and refrained from doing so ourselves during our entire stay, the guests who occupied the other bedrooms in our unit just the day before our check out date, were consuming beer by the pool which we happened to notice, and were quite frustrated that we too could have enjoyed our drinks if wanted to. So not sure whether anyone from the host’s side didn’t notice this or turned a blind eye. •If you want to enjoy spending your day in Pondicherry or Auroville, this is not the place to stay in terms of proximity, because even with bicycles or scooters, the distance is not so comfortable to cover in the heat. We were lucky that we had rented an air-conditioned car...
