This room is a great fit for individual or groups of travelers on a budget who are interested in meeting interesting people right in the place they are staying! We created this house so that people from around the world could meet, share experiences together and potentially create long lasting friendships that go beyond our house. In a big house we are making the world smaller with more connections between people. Below is more information about your shared room, about us and about our house. Read through and see if we are a good fit for your trip!

This listing is not specific to a top bottom bunk. When you arrive you can choose whatever open bottom bunk you prefer. Each bed has labeled storage. Please store your items in the assigned areas.

We have 10 roommates and two shared rooms (Green and Purple room) with up to 13 guests total staying with us less than one month. Our house can have anywhere from 10-24 people staying with us at anytime. Almost everyone staying in our house came to the house through Airbnb and stayed in our shared room before moving into private rooms. This creates a great atmosphere where everyone in the house is there because they enjoy the house and sharing experiences in life with new friends. We hope you feel welcomed into our home!
We envision what it means to be “grown up” as creating a place where you have yourself figured out enough to enjoy continually welcome new folks in. Our mix of roommates and Airbnb guests aim at creating this environment. Folks at the house do a mix of being out of the house at work/life events, hanging out in common areas meeting folks. Come say hi, introduce yourself, and hang out if you want, or if you prefer to keep to yourself during your stay you are welcome to do this as well.
The house has a weekly house hang out all current guests are invited to. This is a great way to meet the other folks in the house you may not have run into yet. In our living room there is a board with the list of upcoming hangouts! We tend to alternate between staying at the house for bonfire/potluck/movie night and going out for happy hour/food/hikes.
Here is more about Leah, Michael and our four roommates staying in the house year after year! Our house manager – Leah handles all Airbnb communications. Leah is a recovering social worker with an international student education habit. Leah has worked with youth/young adults for the past 10 years. She currently does the multiple- part time employment thing which is right up her alley. Leah works often and is around the house minimally. She is the Furiosa of texting (if you are confused, think Mad Max – she is a show stealer and speedy as all get out) and is also available via Airbnb messaging. While her face may not be at the house often, through her Airbnb messages, posted signs around the house and texts she is a familiar presence!
Michael is an avid traveler and not at the house often. His spirit is leaping around hoping everyone gets to know each other well and discovers something awesome about the human experience! He is human computer interaction fanatic and is enjoying his time as an entrepreneur developing businesses around his passion.
Eric has an extensive science back ground and currently works at a bio tech company helping do work that will cure cancer! He is kind of a big deal. He is also a big dude! He is our tallest roommate at over 6 feet. He has bright blonde curly hair. He is easy to spot in the house. Eric is a former academic and science teacher for homeschooled elementary students. He loves learning more about nature. Want to talk philosophy of shared living, he is your guy.
Upon booking you'll receive our house manual which includes additional roommate introductions!
ABOUT OUR HOUSE:
Our house is located on the Northeast edge of Capitol Hill and the Montlake neighborhood. It is located by public transportation and is walkable to the nightlife of Capitol Hill, Arborteum and a quick bus ride to the University of Washington.
This mansion of a house is built into the side of a hill. You can see the entire Lake Washington, and the Cascade mountain range, from the windows.
You'll be on the Northeast edge of Capitol Hill, bordering the Montlake neighborhood. You're a two-block walk from public transportation, a 10-15 min walk to the closest grocery store, 15 min bus ride to University of Washington campus, a 20-25 minute walk from the bustling Capitol Hill, scene and a 45 min walk to downtown. To get there, you'll walk through really pretty neighborhoods of mansions, trees, unique homes, and restaurants.
And you will be a 10-15 minute walk from three of Seattle's greatest parks: the lillypad-filled Arboretum, the gorge-filled Interlaken Park, an the Olmsted Brother's famous Volunteer Park. Climb the top of the Volunteer Park water tower and see a 360 view of EVERYTHING in seattle.
The Capitol Hill neighborhood has a great mix of artisan food and drink, local movie theaters, nightlife and parks. The area is walkable (for those who are okay with walking a mile or two) and also can be quickly traveled with public transportation. We have ample free street parking available on our block for guests.
Our house is closed to the 43 and 48 Metro bus lines. The 43 bus goes downtown and has a stop by the Westlake Light Rail Station. The Light Rail goes from downtown to the Sea Tac airport. The King County Metro is the area bus system. The maps app starting with Goo and ends with gle works really well in seattle for planning travel including public transportation. Pick an intersection near where we show up on your map to find out if we are in the area that fits your trip needs! You can also use that to find out more about what is nearby to our location!
Our roommates share responsibilities of deep cleans around the house a couple times a week and light cleaning daily. The cleaning schedule is listed in the kitchen. If during your stay you notice any area of the house that needs attention please alert Leah immediately!
We aim to have a clean house but with so many folks around the house we can’t ensure it is the cleanest 24 hours a day! Each guest will need to clean up after themselves immediately in all common areas. Please note that we rely on ALL guests being excellent at cleaning up after themselves and helping with that needs attention throughout the day (such as emptying dishwasher/rack, etc). If guests see areas that need more attention we encourage guests to contact Leah directly!
We ask all guests to be excellent at cleaning up after themselves and wiping up any residue left behind. We have cleaning supplies easily available in our kitchen and bathroom to help guests clean up after themselves. Please be mindful that there are many folks in the house that this is their home! Please follow the golden rule and treat others (and our house) as you want to be treated!
We are a no smoking indoors house. We have a few roommates who have breathing issues related to smoking so… you know… we want them to be able to breathe. We have an area on our back patio away from doors and windows that guests are able to smoke if desired.
Interaction with guests
We are best suited for guests that are comfortable with communication mainly through airbnb messaging/texts and receiving written instructions. We aren't able to provide in person hosting consistently so it is best to expect that all points of contact with host will be through technology. Check in instructions will be thorough and contain essential information. Guests should plan on having read through all these instructions and our house manual before arrival.
Leah communicates with all guests for booking and stay arrangements. As Leah works multiple part time jobs she will not be present when guests arrive. We try to make check in as flexible as possible to accommodate the time that works best for the guest. To do this we have a check in process that is self directed (with detailed check in instructions sent a week before arrival). Guests should plan ahead to have the check in instructions accessible for reference upon arrival as we are not able to meet guests in person.
Leah follows up with guests via text/airbnb messaging in the first 24 hours of stay. While Leah may not be much of a face around the house she is very available via text/airbnb messaging and can usually reply within 30 mins. We encourage guests to be proactive about questions and reach out to Leah.
Our bed check in/check out times are firm (3pm check in/noon check out). We are able to arrange for guests to arrive earlier/depart later, and store bags in our coat room just to the right after entering the house. Arriving before 3pm or departing after noon should be arranged through messaging before the week of arrival.
Our long term roommates as well as guests who have been stay with us are usually very friendly and willing to help new guests get a sense of the house. Often time if other folks are around the house when guests arrive they will receive a tour of the house from a long term roommate or current guest. To make sure things about the house aren't lost in translation - make sure to refer to the house manual and welcome binders in the house.
Help keep the house clean by picking up and cleaning up your things from common spaces! Follow the golden rule: Treat others (and our house!) like you want to be treated!
Only toilet paper in the toilets.
Our only means of preventing a clogged shower is our drain covers. Please make sure they are on at all times while using the shower and clean them out after use. This helps keep the bathrooms operating and welcoming for all!
No smoking inside the house and not near any windows or doors outside. Please use the designated smoking area on our back patio. We have roommates whose breathing is effected by smoke so this is a big deal for us!
