This is where I grew up, an unassuming little home on two acres of land, where the creek is just steps from the backyard deck.
My own home is also on the property. The two homes are separated by about 80 feet and there is a long & tall hedge of lilacs between them, so you will have plenty of privacy but I am nearby if you need me or have questions!
The house, which is situated between Highway 70 and Greenhorn Creek, is an hour from the casinos & nightlife of Reno or travel 75 miles to the charm of Truckee, and from there 15 additional miles will take you to the shores of Lake Tahoe. But the real treat is the beauty of our own county, Plumas, where outdoor opportunities abound, including golfing: Plumas County was recently voted the 15th 'Best Place for Golfers to Retire' and the Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club was listed as one of the best places (4.5 stars) to play by Golf Digest. Or how about hiking, biking, kayaking? Lakes Basin Recreation Area is just 25 minutes from Creekside, where you will find many beautiful lakes and the Sierra Buttes. This is a place where the trails are graced by beautiful lakes, rivers, streams & waterfalls and dominated by impressive rock faces, including those of the magnificent Sierra Buttes. The Pacific Crest Trail runs right through here and then on into Lassen County. Lassen County, where you will find Lassen Volcanic National Park, an almost undiscovered National Park and a real beauty.
You will also be 20 miles from Bucks Lake, a local favorite. There are 3 resorts located at the lake, all with restaurants and one of which, Lakeshore Resort, has a deck where you can enjoy your meal looking out over the water. There are also boat and stand-up paddleboard rentals at the resorts. Kayaks are available to rent in Quincy.
The creek is right there for you to enjoy. Out the living room door is a deck that looks over the creek and there is also a small concrete deck right next to the creek, a nice place for a morning cuppa.
The kitchen has a breakfast nook that looks out over the creek, a charming space! Perhaps one night you'd like to flip that switch right there, the one on the wall near the table, turning on the spotlight and lighting up the creek and backyard. Ahhh, now, fix yourself a cup of hot chocolate and watch the river flow.
Interaction with guests
I will be available, and am pleased to be available, to give advice on my favorite hiking & biking trails in the area. You will find within the home a folder with 1) Forest Service brochures that locate and describe many of the trails and other outdoor opportunities available to you and 2), menus from our local restaurants and 3), the movie schedule from our theater.
Other things to note
FYI: The nightly price includes the 9% occupancy tax that Plumas County requires. So you're actually renting the whole home for $118.30/night and then I have to tack on the occupancy tax of $11.70/night = $130/night. Again, just FYI. (Note: I do lower the nightly price for Off Season.)
There is no television per se but there is a tv set with a DVD player and VHS player accompanied by a small DVD/VHS library.
Most cell phones seem to work here (with Verizon working the best), but if yours doesn't, I can hook up an extension to my home phone.
There is a covered garage with two stalls, one for your car and one for mine.
The nearest grocery store is 2 miles away.
And, if you're coming for FRC's graduation ceremonies, the college is 7 miles from your accommodation. Or High School graduation: 5 miles from the high school.
Plumas County experiences coldish nights in the summer, I would keep that in mind when packing!
No pets & please remember there is an extra, per-person, charge for more than 2 guests! When booking please indicate the number of guests, thank you.
The orchard attracts quite a few deer on an almost daily basis, please drive down the driveway slowly so they aren't scared onto the highway.
And this is definitely a no smoking property!
I manage, and am a projectionist for, the movie theater here in Quincy.
I've lived here for most of my life. My father was a mountain-man at heart and he & my mom brought us here when I was 12. Which means this small piece of earth has been in my family for over 50 years!
Like my father I'm keen on the outdoors and enjoy hiking, biking and camping. More like my mother: I think a good book is an amazing piece of art. A good book makes me very happy. :)
