This is one of the few places in the area with free parking.
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. With access to private river location and bush walks. A nice cosy cottage perfect for one or two. Relax with the calm surrounding sound of nature, river and native birdsong. Our eco cottage "The Snug" has been created with recycled materials, giving it a unique character. Some features The Snug included are a composting toilet, a small wood burner for warmth, and it overlooks a medicinal herb garden and some friendly animals see photos.

The space
This is an organic lifestyle block with surrounding farmland. Animals wander freely and leave their mark, appropriate footwear recommended if exploring.
Its usually very quiet and peaceful with an occasional neighbour passing on the track.
The main house is separate from the Snug, about 40m away with trees and a garage providing privacy and quiet.

Guest access
Access to the property is on a private gravel road, travelling through a surrounding farm. Lower vehicles not recommended.
Access to the river is steep, proper shoes are required and good knees. Easier access is available if needed, 2 min drive.
Walking around immediate area is on a shared access track. Access to Tararua forest park and longer bush walks is by vehicle and a 10 min scenic drive.

Other things to note
In winter the sun is a late starter here. To make the most of your winter stay in sunny weather it is advised to come prepared to stay snuggled in for the morning or get out and about with other local activities and back to enjoy a gorge sunny afternoon, worth the wait. Prime river visit time between 2-4pm in winter.

The Otaki gorge is a beautiful, peaceful area and lovely to walk around.
The are several Walking tracks in the Tararua forest park further in the Otaki forks. The last 5km to access these tracks is now on foot.
The Otaki river has several access points along Gorge rd, one of the more popular spots is known as "the Pots".
A 15 min drive will get you to the beautiful local beaches or stop in at Otaki township, a popular shopping destination. Local markets both in Te horo and Otaki make a lovely Sunday visit when on.
