One of the largest cavehouses in the world, this fabulous property has a unheated 'endless' pool, large Moorish hot tub & plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms for large family get togethers. Decorated with fine art/antiques, near Geothermal pools & castles - Note we charge extra per guest staying after 2.

The space

Note - we charge according to the number staying - so 2 people included in base price, then a small supplement for extra guests. Just put in the number staying in the box on the right - babies under 2 don't count.

Guardian Newspaper 'Top 40 Places to Stay in Europe' says

'this vast cavehouse is like the den of a rather discerning hobbit. It has seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, several reception rooms and a kitchen - and all are stuffed with antiques and art. Modern additions include an 'endless pool' (you swim against a current) and a large hot tub with views over the plateau. There are geothermal pools, wine and tapas 10 minutes' drive away.'

Our luxury cavehouse is a wonderful place for a group gathering in the sun - an unforgettable house. It sits in a beautiful mountain landscape that enjoys c320 days of sunshine a year, in Granda province, Andalucia. It's an area known for its traditional culture and geothermal pools, but if you want to stay home you have your own 'endless spa pool' (with pumps so you swim against the current) and a large hot tub with mountain views. You can sleep up to 20 but the internal configuration still makes it suitable, and comfortable for smaller groups of 4>8 people as there are a choice of receptions of different sizes.

Local 'adventure' firms can organise days out paint-balling in the mountain forests, on treetop 'zipwires', archery, 4x4 off-road treks, guided mountain walking, caving and minibus 'cultural' tours. Kids will love the sense of freedom (they can roam freely from the house, exploring the caves etc), the pools and the forest adventure park, or (if they wish) feeding the goats and horses with our housekeeper, Monique.

Inside you'll find an remarkable and beautiful interior in what is probably the largest cavehouse in Spain (or the world?). This ancient home, cut from the local stone has three large reception rooms, many bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and a well-equipped large kitchen. Dining table can seat up to 18. You won't be short of space inside or out.

Guest access

An entire house and exclusive use of the hot tub. On occasion the pool is shared with one smaller property, but as the pool is located approximately 5 metres from terrace there is no disturbance when staying.

WIFI is available and included, as is fuel for the woodburners (typically only required in January and February). There are also storage and electrc radiators if required. The beauty of cavehouses is they maintain a constant temperature (around 15C) all year round, even before heating. So no airconditioning is required. Bedding and towels are provided - just bring food and drink!

Babies - we have one cot and new mattress and one high chair in the house. Bring own bedding for cot.

Receptions:

Kitchen - two ovens, dishwasher, washingmachine, two large fridge freezers, toaster, kettle, local granite worksurfaces and artisan sinks
Dining Room - with dining table to comfortably seat 14, woodburner and original bread oven. Direct access to patio.
Salon - an 18m (60') long socialising space with its own bar.
The Snug - a reception room near the bedrooms with a Moorish bench, and collection of religious icons

Bedroom 2 - twin with own direct access to terrace and large en-suite shower room
Bedroom 3 - single
Bedroom 4 - double
Bedroom 5 - double

Children must be supervised. It is possible to use as a standard pool, without the jets and pumps (recommended for children).
Various outdoor eating areas including one large table and outdoor cooking grill for al-fresco dining.
Spa Hot Tub - a large 6 seater (one lounger) hot tub spa with 60 jets. Good quality, imported from USA. Great mountain views.
Garden terraces including several outdoor eating areas with seating and tables, sun-loungers, and a large grill for outdoor cooking.

We had a fantastic week staying in this spectacular location in rural Andalucia. The cave house gave us a fantastic base from which to explore the area and was the perfect place to enjoy a family holiday. As a group of 10 (5 couples) we had ample space to relax, with lots of lovely communal areas (such as the bar, the kitchen, the dining room) as well as the comfortable and cozy bedrooms. Eating outdoors as the sun went down was a real treat, and the hot tub and swimming pool were very welcome on the hot, hot days we had there. From the pleasant sounds of the goat herders and their flock, to the crystal clear night skies offering views of the Milky Way, this is unlike anywhere else we've ever stayed before and is packed with character and charm. We had lots of fun exploring the local area. The nearest village, Orce, is a lovely place to visit with plenty of history and a handful of cute bars and restaurants. There is a market on Tuesday mornings where you can pick up tasty local produce at a bargain price and improve your Spanish! About a mile beyond Orce is a nice outdoor swimming pool which you share with lots of fish. If you are feeling energetic, it's a spectacular walk (about 4 miles) from the house to the village directly through the valley. This route is also great for running, although in the summer months you have to get out early to avoid the heat of the sun! Further afield (but within an hour or so's drive) we really enjoyed swimming in the stunning Negratin Reservoir, had a lovely day out exploring the castle and hillside village at Velez Blanco, and loved the gorge walk and dramatic scenery at Castril. I would recommend a holiday in this part of Spain to anyone. The dramatic scenery, pretty villages, outdoor lifestyle, and slow-paced charm of daily life provide the ideal backdrop for a truly relaxing break. I would also be hard pressed to think of a better place to stay than La Veranda cave house. If you are thinking about booking this place as a family or as a group of friends, just do it - you'll have a great time!

Gregs cave house is a very special place...From the sheer size of the cave complex to the beautiful antiques that surround you in every room. Lots of thought has gone into the layout and design. There is ample space even when fully occupied and the beds are super comfortable. This is a rare opportunity to have a unique experience that most people never have the chance to see. I think it's fascinating to remember that caves are the longest inhabited dwellings on the planet. Humans have occupied these caves continuously from the dawn of time to the present day and it felt very special to be part of that continuing historical tapestry. The surrounding towns and villages are all very nice and the thermal springs and lakes are great for swimming. Congratulations Greg and family on such a great achievement. We wish you all the best and hope we can visit again sometime soon.

We rented this beautiful cave house for a relaxed and chilled getaway before our friends wedding. The house was amazing, very cool inside with great decor and antiques, really quirky and charming. There were good kitchen facilities too, which were important as we were cooking large meals. However, we had purposely looked for a property with a pool as the location was secluded and at the time of year we were going, July, we realised it would be hot and we would need to cool off. We were not there with the intention to drive anywhere for the four days, just 8 friends spending a lovely time together in the peace and quite with great food. The pool was smaller in reality than in the photos but we accepted that, only needing to cool of and have a dip. However we quickly realised that the whole outside area was infested with wasps from about 8.00 -21.00. This especially affected the pool and made it unusable as there were wasps swarming all over it and many dead on the water. A fellow guest skimmed these off with a net but had been stung more than once in the process. One of our group has a bad reaction to wasp stings so was very scared of sitting outside. We also couldn't eat outside. We did tell the housekeeper and she confirmed the owner knew already. We would not have continued with our trip if we had know that we could not use the pool or sit outside. We were advised to go to the local municipal pool a 15 minute drive away, which we did, but it had very little shade, no sunbeds, chairs and although it was OK it was not what we had intended or paid for. We did e mail the owner twice more but were told it was a natural epidemic and nothing could be done. There was another property below us with a pool and no problem though. We did think there must be a nest somewhere and it looked as though they were coming from the nearby wall. In the end this meant that we abandoned our stay, checking out 24 hours early. So disappointing.

An amazing location & totally unique house - we were a party of 9 adults and one toddler and the house was more than ample for us! Fantastic decor with so many original features - we spent hours exploring! Hot tub was super and we spent hours in there! The views and surroundings are wonderful, so peaceful and quiet - with the town of Orce 5 mins drive away with all you need! Monique the house keeper who is a few houses away was wonderful and helped us with everything we needed! Communication with Yvonne was super - and she allowed us to check in early and check out later which was greatly appreciated! We cooked for 10 in the kitchen and the 2 fridges and two ovens/hobs were a brilliant edition! Couldn't recommend this place more! We would definitely visit again! Thank you for having us!
