APARTMENT
Two bedroom apartment on the second floor, located in a quiet street of the residential Oosterpark neighbourhood, close to the Oosterpark, convenience shops and cosy neighbourhood restaurants and cafes. Only 10 minutes away from the historic city centre with its renowned museums, fashionable shops, and Nieuwmarkt, Leidseplein and Rembrandplein nightlife. Both metro and tram stops are at easy walking distance.
The apartment is ideal for people who are looking for a home from home experience, but is not suited for people who love house partying, since our neighbours are able to hear everything that is too loud.
The apartment is nicely renovated with central heating and wooden floors throughout, but still holds many authentic details, like the sliding doors with coloured glass and the chimney pieces in both large rooms. The high ceilings and large windows make the living room light and airy. The living room has a sofa and large chair, a television set and a table and chairs. The south facing balcony is covered at all sides safe front in a veranda-style manner, thus creating a perfect spot to relax or smoke outside whilst being protected against rain and wind. The large bedroom is adjacent to the living room and holds two single beds, a small desk and a built in cupboard. The small bedroom is reached either through the large bedroom either through the hallway and holds a double bed and again a built in cupboard. The small but convenient bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet, sink and small cabinet. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, oven/microwave and stove.

Spacious apartment in a quiet residential street. Easy walking distance from the metro and around the corner from a friendly bike hire shop. Very quiet at night plus comfy beds meant a great night's sleep. Steps up to the flat are fairly steep, something to bear in mind if you have issues with mobility. Didn't pose us any problem. Overall a great stay, very highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay, close to the Metro line and supermarket. Apartment was clean and communication was good.

Pro's: - Nice neighborhood, good location - Near the metro, about a 25 min walk to the city center - Wifi worked well - Spacious and lot of natural light Con's: - Apartment could have been cleaned better - Photo's need to be updated, they seem to be old as other reviews have mentioned. - Bathroom is very small (i.e. if you sit on the toilet, your knees will be under the sink and your feet will be in the shower). - Needs minor general upkeep/repair (shower drained very slow, exhaust fan didn't work, lots of unpatched nail holes in wall, etc)

Together with my four friends we stayed last weekend at "Vrolikstay - at home in Amsterdam". This is my fifth location with Airbnb and, for the first time, I/we was/were deeply disappointed. The apartment was shabby, uncomfortable and in disrepair, We'd booked and paid for five and the apartment was barely outfitted for four. One of our friends had to sleep on the old living-room couch. The person who let us in, with a 3 hours delay (host offered a €50 reimbursement) agreed that those were unacceptable sleeping arrangements but wasn't able to reach the host for guidance. The same person tried to help with the controversial fridge door that wouldn't close but couldn't make it work either. The morning after, we opened the fridge door and got her feet flooded by the melted ice... We also had to throw out the spoilt food that was in the fridge. The bathroom measures less than one square meter and contains a shower, sink and loo. The shower was barely dripping the first morning and showed a little more cooperation the second morning when we un-screwed the shower head. We spend a lot of time talking on the phone with the host who was offering useful tips, i.e. un-twist the shower tube, attach the fridge door to the frame with the piece of rope nailed to it, etc. I would suggest that this location was removed from the Airbnb site in order to prevent future unhappiness.

Response from Short Stay Vrolik:
Since this was resolved and Erica accepted the 50€ I offered to compensate for the delay in the key exchange, please allow me to paste here my response: - You found the apartment "shabby, uncomfortable and in disrepair". I have to point out that you're all but alone in your opinion: I have plenty of happy guests that left good reviews of my apartment; your pretty high standards are more fit for an hotel than an AirBnB (which is a house where people - me and my 2 kids - live in, so necessarily less polished than an hotel). - The linen and the sheets for the couch have to be in one of the closets, since during the day the couch is used as a..couch! - You left the door of the fridge opened overnight and found water on the floor: I should be asking you for compensation, but I understand this kind of mistakes do happen (although, you're the first guests so careless to go to sleep without checking the door of the fridge), so I won't. - The shower: please let me quote (AirBnB can check the genuineness of the following) the guests that are staying at this very moment in the apartment: "- the shower head seems to be in pretty poor connection with the tube (some part of water is running trough the crack in the junction), we guess it's not likely to "live" much longer. " It seems Erica did a poor job in reattaching the tube (understandable, as she was not supposed to tinker with it). Should I now ask you to pay for a proper plumber to go and fix the tube? I won't, as I count this within the acceptable risks of running an AirBnB. I'm confident that this was just an unfortunate case of misunderstanding. I hope Erica and her friends will have better luck in the future. Alessandro

Alessandro's flat was perfect for our short stay in Amsterdam. The location is really excellent, in an up and coming neighbourhood with some great local restaurants and bars. We were attending a 3-day conference at nearby Hotel Casa 400 and so it was ideal to be a 10 minute walk away from there but also close to public transport links to the main city centre. The Metro was really convenient and easy to use. The flat itself was great, very spacious with everything we needed. As other people have noted, the stairs up to the flat were very steep but perfectly fine for us able-bodied young people with small amount of luggage! The kitchen was very easy to cook in and it was lovely to sit out on the balcony on an evening. The bathroom was very small but absolutely fine for a short stay. The flat is mostly true to the photographs, but as others have commented I would agree and say these were probably taken a while ago. Overall I would recommend this place and I know all 3 of us were very happy with our choice. Thanks for your hospitality Alessandro!

Alessandro was welcoming and explained things when we arrived. The flat was clean and spacious with a decent little kitchen. The shower room and toilet was small but was fine for a short stay. Other than the incredibly steep stairs leading to it, the flat was very child friendly with plenty of toys, a travel cot and a stoller supplied. The area was quiet and residential and was a really good location; near to a supermarket, a good bakery and lots of cafes and a good market. It's a really easy bike ride or train ride into the centre of town as well. I would certainly recommend this place for short stays in Amsterdam.
