About this listing

Chill out in our gorgeous private one bedroom annexe, with its own huge living room looking over gorgeous gardens, great separate kitchen, lovely new shower room and your own private sauna! Play tennis or sit under the stars by the firepit at this rural retreat!

The space

Set on the edge of a lovely hamlet, surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, you will find the Annexe at Monk's Dairy House the perfect, tranquil retreat from your hectic schedule, or a place to stay while going to a wedding or visiting local friends, or maybe working in the area during the week; with plenty to do when you feel like heading out. A very comfy bed and great shower, fully-kitted out kitchen, great private sauna and cosy woodburner in the large living space, not to mention use of our tennis court in the garden. Take a walk or cycle ride on the surrounding Somerset Levels for an awe-inspiring breath of fresh air, hit the local markets and local food stores in Langport and Ilminster, or head up to Burrow Hill for some authentic local cider (fit for Glastonbury) or Brown and Forrest for some locally-smoked fish and cheese, then cook up a feast. Head out to Lyme Regis for a wind-swept romantic walk on the Cobb (just 40 mins away) or have a gourmet meal at Langford Manor, just up the lane. There's often live music in the evenings at the local pubs and festivals throughout the summer, plus lots of local artists and pottery studios to visit, as well as Barrington and Monatcute Houses, two of the settings for the BBC's recent dramatisation of Wolf Hall. All in all you cannot help but have a relaxing break in our wonderful rural retreat. We are here to offer you advice and give you tips to make the most of your stay with us. Come and learn how to live the Somerset way - the most chilled, creative, beautiful place to live in the UK! The owners are a professional novelist and photographer and can give private lessons on request!

Guest access

The annexe has its own private entrance accessed from the lovely back garden of the house. The annexe looks over a large deck and onto the wider gardens, with a firepit, tennis court and lots of space to relax in.

Interaction with guests

We will generally be in on hand to answer any questions as we live in the house adjoining the annexe. Your privacy, however, is paramount and we will not disturb you unless you ask! We can however, point you in the direction of many local delights - and even escort you if required!

Other things to note

We have two biddable dogs, a spaniel and a labrador, who are always keen for a walk. They do wander freely in the garden and are very good natured!

Accommodation was comfortable and the location very peaceful. It might be worth noting that there is no TV. This wasn't a problem for us, as there is wifi. It was useful for us to be able to bring our two dogs too and they enjoyed the lovely garden.

Charlie and his dogs were very welcoming. We got some great tips on the best pubs to visit and while the Mrs was working on our first day Charlie suggested we attend a local auction together. It was the first time I've been to one and now I'm an addict!

Really lovely place - beautiful garden and friendly owner who was very understanding about our very late check-in.

The Annex is in a beautiful and very quiet spot, opening up to large gardens. The space itself is rustic and charming. We had plenty of room even with a toddler and a dog, and appreciated being stocked with some breakfast basics.

Lovely annexe, set in a secluded village well away from the hectic incursions of modern life. Miranda and Charlie were supremely friendly, warm and helpful hosts. What a bonus to have a sauna too!

This beautiful annexe in bucolic Somerset is the perfect place to relax, enjoy a beautiful garden, and tour the gorgeous countryside. We visited several cider breweries and then enjoyed our spoils playing cribbage in the comfy Monk's Dairy Annexe while watching a light English rain storm. Classic.
