Are you just looking for a place to spend the night? Or are you looking for an unforgettable experience away from the beaten tourist tracks?

Well, if you are looking for the second? This is your place!

Enjoy a very relaxing stay in our private boutique cottage nestled within 5 acres of secluded and peaceful garden and orchard.

Wander around the gardens with colour flowers, interact with our farm animals, listen to the birds and enjoy a hot bath under a clear sky of sparkling stars.

The space
Brand new! This cottage has been redecorated and renovated in 2019 and 2020!

The Paua Bach is a studio style cottage with a king size bed and a sofa-bed. It has a fully equipped kitchen with quality Swiss knifes, olive oil, freshly ground pepper and salt as well as a BBQ on the private deck. The special feature of this cottage is an old fashioned outside bath to enjoy a hot bath under the stars.
This cottage is very private with two decks catching the morning and evening sun and overlooking the orchard.

Our 5 acres of peaceful gardens and organic mixed orchard is set up to permaculture principals. Which means we have fresh fruit and vegetable all year around and our farm animals play a very important part in this growing circle.

There are big old trees, many birds and neat little places to relax and just be.

It is the perfect place for your own retreat. Take time for yourself or with your loved ones, fuel up with new energy, get inspired or just enjoy.

We encourage guests to stay longer with attractive rates for long term rentals.
If you are travelling on your own, please get in touch with us and ask about our special rates for single travellers, conditions apply.

Families with children are very welcome, we have a big trampoline to jump on, a swing, a sandpit and many toys our son Levon is happy to share.

Bring your own supplies to create lovely meals in the well equipped kitchen.

It is our aim to live in a mindful and sustainable way with nature and what it has to offer. We don't use any poisonous sprays and practice reuse and recycle as much as we can. We appreciate your contribution as our guest by separating your rubbish and being conscious of the usage of resources (water and power). We are looking forward to hosting like-minded people.

Guest access
You are welcome to explore the gardens, wander through the orchard, have a swim in our salt water swimming pool (summer) and have a jump on the trampoline.
Meet our friendly farm animals: the ponies Pandora and Lucky, the Kune Kune pigs Hercules and Cookie, the chickens and our cat Lizzy.

Other things to note
The standard set-up and price for this cottage is for a couple sharing the king size bed. If you require two separate beds for two individual people (the king size bed and the sofabed), please let us know when you book. There will be an surcharge of NZD50.00 per booking to cover our costs for setup and extra linen. Thank you for your understanding.

Children up to two years old sleep in a cot or sharing a bed with their parents stay for free. Please let us know with your booking if you require a cot and/or high chair and other children amenities. We kindly provide them free of charge.

Complementary we provide seasonal fresh fruit from our organic orchard, teas and coffees, sugar, olive oil, pepper & salt of high quality. There is bath robes, carefully selected bath salt, shampoo & conditioner as well as body lotion for you to enjoy.

We are very fortunate to have our own bore water with a new filter system (2020). The water is sparkling clean and of very good quality to drink and to fill up your water bottles for the day. The Paua Bach has its own waste water system (septic tank), we appreciate if you could use biodegradable products where possible (provided).

For rainy days there is a selection of classic DVD's, board games, books and free unlimited internet for you to use.

This is a rural property, we live in the middle of nature surrounded by farms. The next bigger town with shops and supermarkets is 20-30 minutes drive away. There is a great selection of cafés, restaurants and boutique shops in the area (5-10min. drive away). Opening hours are depending on the season.
It gets very dark here at night, the perfect condition to enjoy the countless stars and milky way on a cloudless sky.
During your stay you might experience a possum, rat or mouse on your roof or around the cottage at night. There are birds, small lizards and insects including New Zealand Garden Cockroaches and Wetas (grasshopper like insects) living on the property. Even though we do everything possible to keep them outside, one might get lost inside on the search for food or water.
If you are not used to or familiar with nature, you might feel more comfortable in a motel or hotel in town.
