My Post & Beam home is centrally located on Mount Desert Island in the village of Somesville. There is easy access to Acadia National Parks' hiking and biking trails, as well as the towns of Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor for restaurants & shopping.

The space

My post and beam, passive solar home is nestled in the woods, surrounded by blueberry patches. I have a screened porch at the back of my house which is perfect for drinking coffee, and relaxing after a long day of hiking. The bedrooms are located on the second floor, overlooking a small pond in my backyard. Each bedroom has its own closet, dresser, desk, bed with tempurpedic mattress. and bathroom. Our water source is a well. In the late summer, when it tends to be very dry, we suggest short showers and flushing only when necessary. We use water sparingly! In addition, bottled water is always available.

Guest access

In addition to the bedroom and bathroom you have rented, you will have access to my screened porch, kitchen, dining room, living room.

Interaction with guests

My family has a long history on Mount Desert Island, and I am more than happy to recommend places to go and things to do while you are here.

Other things to note

Please note that I also have another bedroom available that is equipped with a tub, if you are interested please check out my other listings.

Staying with Fran felt like we were staying with a friend instead of a host. Her home is ideally located in the park and it gave us more time to explore the park. She had great suggestions and was extremely helpful. She made us muffins one morning and it may have been the best muffin I have ever had. Highly recommended and would absolutely stay with Fran again.

Fran is so easy going, and her place is cozy and homey. We stayed for 3 nights...very comfortable bed and accommodations...and a nice cat, too! We liked not being in the hubbub of Bar Harbor, while it was still close enough for dinner out. I recommend Fran's place for anyone who seeks peace and quiet with proximity to the action.

Fran was amazing. The house was in close proximity to everything you want to do in Acadia. The house was clean and cozy. Fran provided a huge breakfast spread every morning. I would highly recommend staying with her!

We had a wonderful visit at Fran's place in Somesville. It's a truly beautiful home, secluded amongst the trees and yet minutes to Bar Harbor and all the attractions of Acadia. Fran was communicative throughout, and had helpful info for sightseeing, trails, and restaurants (we took up her suggestion of Beal's for lobster and weren't disappointed). In addition to the private room with attached bath, we were welcome to use the kitchen and other common areas, including a stunning porch looking out towards the backyard pond, on which we enjoyed our breakfast, which was left out for us in the mornings. Due to a water shortage we used filled pails that Fran provided to flush the toilet, but this did not inconvenience us at all. Conversations with Fran and her visiting friends were a delight, and we hope to return.

I travel a lot by various methods. And what I enjoy most is the connection with people. Airbnb and RVing offers that easily. I also love crafting...... knitting and basket making!
