Mostly renovated 100 year old house, still a work in progress, walking distance to the University or downtown. Organic garden. Wood floors, freshly painted, friendly home. Fireplaces outside and in, porch-swing, on the bike trail. Mostly student neighborhood, but it's called the student ghetto so it's not suburbia, and can occasionally be a bit noisy on the weekends (especially football game days). Two bedrooms available.
It's a four bedroom house and I try and keep two rooms available for guests and travelers. I live with my girlfriend and a Chesapeake Retriever. The house is 100 years old, freshly painted and nice, but it's still an old house. So if you're looking for shiny new, not the right house for you. The bathroom is shared by the guests. It's mostly a student neighborhood, but it's called the student ghetto. There are also professionals and families too. But I've never had any problems with crime. People walk home and ride bikes till the middle of the night and there's no problems.
You have access to the house and garden.
Interaction with guests
I'm relatively available. I work a lot on my sailboat in St Augustine, but if I'm not there the roommate will help out. I work at home a lot so when I'm home I'm available.
Other things to note
PLEASE READ THIS: The bed is a full size bed, not a queen or king size bed, so it can be a little tight. We all share the bathrooms; so no private bath. I just want you to know in advance. The neighborhood is called the student ghetto. So it can get noisy on the weekends.
Please keep the house clean, don't leave dishes for others to clean up. Basic respect. No smoking at all in the house. Outside in the garden or on the porch is fine.
Relatively quiet and enjoy good conversation with a sense of humor. I had been traveling for the past 30 years or so, but I'm trying to be a reformed traveler. 10 years on my sailboat between Maine and South America, then 15 years as a photojournalist in Eastern Europe and a few years in South America. I bought the house a few years ago and am rebuilding it and trying to make a beautiful garden. There are a few rough edges here and there, the neighborhood is generally quiet but there are lots of students and they can be noisy sometimes.
