Sunny cottage situated on the shore of the beautiful tidal Waimea Inlet. Fabulous mountain and inlet views. Great for day trips to Abel Tasman Park or Nelson City. Private and peaceful, yet only 5 minutes drive to shops and cafes in Mapua village.

We had two nights in this beautiful cottage. Loved the setting and views from the windows and deck. Very peaceful and restful. Even though it was mid winter and the rest of the country was hit by bad weather the cottage was lovely and warm and the weather perfect!

We loved our time at Karaka Cottage. It's such a beautiful spot, and the cottage has been thoughtfully renovated in a cool retro style. It was great to make use of the BBQ and eat outside at the outside table, or watch the sun go down over the estuary. Elspeth was a very welco…

We loved staying here - great to wake up to mountains and sea with no one around. We enjoyed the organic veggies left in the fridge for us and the hosts were super friendly with lots of tips on where to go and what to do.

If you love a dawn chorus, black skies & pure untreated tap water book this cottage. Did we mention the private outdoor bath? A gem of a place!

Karaka Cottage was the most perfect getaway and end to our South Island trip. Elspeth welcomed us on arrival and took us down to the cottage which was a great little intro to the area and space. We felt so at peace over the time we stayed and enjoyed both nights sitting outside w…

Elspeth's cabin (one of three) is very secluded in a small vineyard perhaps 15 min from the small village of Mapua. The place is a really pleasant place to stay - comfortable and very pleasantly designed. We enjoyed having a fire in the wood stove. Close to fine wineries and n…

Response from Elspeth:
Hi Eric Thank you for your helpful feedback. We have updated our description to make it more clear that the cottages are situated on the shore of a tidal inlet and not the open sea, and have also added more photos of the views from the peninsula at low tide. The tide comes in and out twice a day so the water and views are constantly changing. The size of the tides also vary according to the phase of the moon and there are timetables and other information for the best times to kayak and paddle board in the cottage information folders. Sorry we didn’t get to meet you while you were here, we were on holiday last week. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday in NZ, best regards, Elspeth (to clarify the location for future guests, Karaka is 3.7km to Mapua village, 5 minutes by car and 10 to 15 minutes if cycling.)

We are a family of 3 living on a small organic waterfront property (2 Ha) on the Waimea Inlet near Mapua. Our place is a mixture of fruit trees, vegetable garden, chickens and a small vineyard. We love to travel, and have spent many years living overseas. We have a constant flow…
