I dropped in here for a quick overnight stay as I was looking for a place close to the ferry. There were many restaurants to choose from right on the block. Working wifi while sitting outdoors was a plus. The manager was incredibly kind and went out of his way to give ideas and tips for visiting the Isle of Wight, my final destination.

The Grapes is in a great location, next to the bustle of good restaurants, pubs and bars, plus very close to Town Quay Marina/ the Red Jet ferry. So perfect if you're a sailor and around for Cowes Week races. Paul was very helpful with my booking too. Easy to check in and out of at anytime is a bonus. My fellow sailor took the room and was very happy with it. Thanks for having us!

Overall the room was quite clean and well tended. It's next to a great cafe for coffee and breakfast. The bar downstairs can be a bit noisy at night, i stayed on a weekend so I found that the other guests were a bit noisy in the halls later into the night but that's to be expected. The street has a few pubs and seems like an entertaining place to spend a night out. I had an issue with the shower not turning on but apparently the cleaning lady had forgotten to flip a switch in the room and the owner was accommodating with this hiccup.

Rooms over a traditional pub in a central location, the waterfront & high street shopping are within a 5-10 minute walk. I stayed in a single room with en-suite bathroom, which, while not large, was perfectly acceptable for a solo traveller. It had a wardrobe built into an alcove, chest of drawers, TV & tea/coffee tray. The only possible downside is that the rooms are on the 3rd floor, so would probably not be suitable for anyone unable to climb several sets of stairs. Paul, the manager, was very helpful & friendly, carrying my luggage up to the room (& down again on my departure), inviting my travel companion (who also booked independently into the Grapes) & I to join him & a friend for a drink prior to ordering us a taxi for our onward journey. We stayed prior to a cruise, the terminal is probably walk-able if you don't have too much luggage or a less than 5 min taxi ride. We also found our room key gave us a discount at the Pizza Express opposite, where we ate that evening, there are several other eating places in Oxford St where I assume you get the same.

The Grapes User Profile

The Grapes is probably one on the most famous pubs in Southampton due to its prominent location on Oxford Street and its historical connection to The Titanic.

Formally a haunt for sailors and seafaring folk of all types, The Grapes now fits into the more modern cosmopolitan feel of Oxford Street’s “Café Culture”.

The Grapes still has the all important traditional feel of a proper boozer but with a modern twist. The pool table, live music and big screens contribute to the popularity of the venue and the friendly atmosphere and efficient staff ensure that The Grapes is the pub to drink in.

We serve a wide range of national and local real ales and have a splendid wine list selected by Enotria wines and a wine preservation system that ensures a perfect glass every time.

The Grapes has four comfortable rooms available for guests and offers affordable overnight accommodation.

Each room has clean en suite facilities, and soft towels are provided.
Our rooms are ideal for working professionals on short term trips to the town.

We hope to accommodate you soon,

Paul & The Grapes Team
