We enjoyed our stay near Demachiyanagi Station ! It was a fairly convenient location, a comfortable and spacious stay for 3, and the host was very responsive. Would recommend this unit in Kyoto.

The apartment was clean, comfortable, and in a quiet area near Kyoto University. Fairly spacious with a nice, high-tech bathroom and Nintendo games (although we were too lazy to hook up the console and play). It's within walking distance from the Demachiyanagi train station on the Keihan line (which is its own railway company, separate from the subway) and several buses, which offer the best connections to various parts of the city. There are a few restaurants nearby as well. It was just a bit inconvenient to check-in in a separate location (didn't meet Murakami, but someone else), but was told that's the law. I've stayed in three other Airbnbs in Japan, and never met the host face-to-face, however.

Response from Murakami:
Thank you Marcus for staying at my place!! Also, so nice of you to leave us comments which would be very helpful to our next guests:) Thank you for your understanding on having to take time for registration right near kyoto station. The law is very strict these days. The good point with this is that my place is a " LEGALLY PERMITTED GUEST HOUSE :)" . Thank you once again for your patience and cooperation on the quick paperworks. Hope you have another chance to come again to visit KYOTO!!
