Mount Canisp House is the perfect retreat for family getaways or corporate bookings. The spacious sand-stone built family cottage is located on an elevated site, situated within an acre of mature gardens and surrounded by rolling countryside views. Dornoch and Tain only a short distance away.

The space

Solid oak floors lead from the hall into the kitchen, utility room, downstairs bathroom, master bedroom and ensuite. The spacious living room, with gas fire and electric heating, leads onto a beautiful dining room with panoramic views of the garden and surrounding area. The dining room, a real sun trap in the warmer months, leads out onto a small patio area which is a great spot for alfresco dining or an evening drink. Upstairs there are two additional double bedrooms, kids toy room and a large shower room. The property is set in mature garden grounds with a driveway that leads to a second holiday cottage, which can also be booked for larger groups.

Guest access

The whole house is available including use of the spacious 1 acre garden, which is shared with an additional 3 bedroom holiday cottage on the site, also available for larger groups so we can accommodate up to 12 people.

Interaction with guests

The hosts live only 10 miles from the cottages, so will be available on hand should there be any questions or help required.

Other things to note

Various sandy beaches are located within a 10 min walk or 10 mile drive. World class golf courses are available within 30 mins drive to Dornoch, or within an hours drive to Inverness. Neighbouring towns of Tain and Invergordon are just a 10 minute drive where you will find all amenities. Closest town shop is 3 miles away.

AListair personally welcomed us he brought us some food and was really friendly and easy to get on with. THe home was everything it was shown to be and more. ON arriving I thought I possibly should have picked a place closer to shops etc but really so glad we stayed there it was so good to be a little out of town

Beautiful cottage in the idyllic location! Modern, airy, warm, beautifully decorated with all essentials that you might need, exactly as described and pictured in the listing. The kitchen is really well equipped (easy to cook dinner for 6/7 people) and there were some lovely snacks and basics to get us going - really thoughtful and welcoming. The cottage has three spacious double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms - could easily fit three couples (we had 7th person with us and Alistair kindly provided an air bed). We all had an amazing experience. Alistair was extremely helpful and accomodating host. The cottage is just a perfect! Highly recommend it to any type of traveler. We would love to come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Mount Canisp House. The house was exactly as described and pictured in the listing. It really is a gorgeous property that has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with plates, glasses, cooking equipment and the dining area was beautiful with its views out over the water. Even though it was summer we enjoyed sitting by the gas fire in the evening! The location of the property is very convenient - just a few minutes from the A9 making it easy to explore the Scottish Highlands. Alistair was very easy to communicate providing information ahead of our arrival, meeting us on time at the property and then ensuring that he passed on some of his local knowledge before he left us to enjoy our holiday! I would definitely recommend staying in this cottage - in fact my husband has already said he wants to go back!

Welcoming host, met me at the accomodation and gave me a helpful tour. The house has a lovely outlook over the cromarty firth, a mixture of natural beauty and the oil rigs. The house was spotless, well appointed and had everything we needed, thanks!

Set in a beautiful location and Alistair kindly provided some basic food to give us a head start after a very long journey. Thank you for everything. I highly recommend this cottage :)
