The space

August Update: New spa heater installed, filled with fresh water, spa is up and running.

We accept reservations of groups with a maximum of 8 adults, plus up to four children. We sometimes accept groups of up to 10 adults, but please contact us before making a reservation in this case.

Summer 2017: We've made some upgrades. First, we've installed a new whole-house water filtration/conditioning system. Water from the tap is now crystal clear and delicious, and we're working through the process of eliminating the iron stains from our grout.
---
Next, we've made major upgrades to the A/V system. We've upgraded the amplifier to a 2017 Denon DTS system. The 16-channel closed circuit video security camera system can now be viewed on the projection TV. We've also installed a XBOX One console video game system and connected that into the A/V system, and provided a selection of games and four controllers. Playing XBOX games on a 12-foot wide projection screen with 7-channel surround is a pretty outstanding experience. Enjoy it!
---
We do welcome you to bring along your dogs (up to two), with the caveat that they not be allowed on the beds or furniture at any time, and that no evidence may be left behind of them, inside or outside the home. If you do bring your pets, please make sure you have time on the day of checkout to sweep and/or vacuum as necessary to remove any sign of pet hair, as we often check guests out on the same day you're checking in, and won't have extra time to remove pet hair left behind.

Sleeping accommodations are:
Master Bedroom: 1 King Bed
Living Room: 1 pull-out sofa
Kids Room: 4 beds in two bunks
Guest Bedroom 1: 1 King Bed, 1 pull-out sofa
Guest Bedroom 2: 1 Queen Bed

We aim to provide a higher-end experience than any other rental in the area.

The living room features an amazing video entertainment center, which includes a 12-foot by 10-foot powered projection screen, and a new HDTV projector installed this year. 6 in-wall speakers are installed throughout the living room, all powered by a Dolby Digital Theater system. Through the Apple TV connected to this system, you can access Netflix and many other entertainment options, but broadcast/cable is not connected to the projector.

There are also large-screen LCD HDTV's in each of the bedrooms. The master bedroom and kid's room are both "Smart TVs" with built-in access to Netflix, Amazon, etc, but no cable TV. Very fast wireless internet access is available, and I carefully wired the home with extenders to ensure a strong signal in every area of the house, as well as on the decks.

Our fully-equipped kitchen includes the same 1950's gas Chambers stove, same model used by Rachel Ray on her FoodTV show. We have all of the high-quality cooking utensils you'll need, including sharp Global and Henkel chef's knives, All Clad cookery, a Cuisinart food processor, Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, pasta machine, and much more. A charcoal grill/smoker (Big Green Egg) on the back deck is available for your use.

We provide all the linens and towels you'll need. The home is thoroughly cleaned and laundered after each guest checks out, then inspected by a friend of our family. We appreciate your tidiness, and if you choose to load and run the dishwasher, we'll appreciate that also. But unlike many other vacation rentals, we do not expect you to fully prepare the home for the next guest.

Your reservation must include the exact number of guests in your party. If you choose to add guests after making your reservation, a fee of $25 per person, per night will apply. Just let us know and we'll apply the appropriate up-charge. The up-charge for additional guests applies to the entire duration of your reservation, regardless of which date your guests arrive or depart. No refunds for extra guest charges will be given within 7 days of check-in.

Regarding our hot tub, projection system, and other amenities: while every effort is made to make these available to you during your stay, we can't prevent circumstances beyond our control like mechanical or technical failure. In the unlikely event amenities aren't available, we will make an adjustment to your rental fee at our discretion, and try to make other accommodations to ensure you have a great stay. However, we cannot guarantee access to amenities or waive our cancelation policy because of them. Thank you!

Certain areas of our home have been locked or zip-tied shut. Please respect our privacy by not attempting to enter these areas.

The door code provided to you will work on the three exterior doors with keypads. The workshop and other outbuildings are off-limits and alarmed. Do not enter them, please.

There are sensors on the exterior doors. If the heat or air conditioning is running, please keep all doors closed at all times. If any door is left open for more than 5 minutes, we'll be notified by text message.

The outside of our home is monitored by CCTV.

Please do not try to operate the alarm panel. We operate this remotely. There is no need to set the alarm when you go out.

Please do not adjust the Nest digital thermostats. Each of the back to guest rooms have their own thermostat. Please set these to 55 when you leave, or if you're not using the room. If you are using those rooms, feel free to adjust the temperature for your comfort.

The TV's in the Master Bedroom and in the kid's room are both “Smart" TV's with Netflix etc. built-in. The TV in the guest room is not so smart - on that one you can watch basic cable only.

Using the hot tub:
Be careful lifting the hot tub cover. Please make sure the arms that slide into the center of the cover are pushed in towards the center of the cover. They want to pop out, and if you try to lift the cover with the arms halfway in, they'll break.
The cover folds in half and then flips up vertically. It's fully open when it's pointing at the sky.
Before closing the cover, disengage the safety lock by pressing the red tab on the lifter arm. If you try to close the hot tub cover without disengaging the lock, you'll break the lifer.
Please do not add any chemicals to the tub. It was treated before you arrived and will be treated during and after your visit as necessary.
Do not adjust the hot tub temperature or press any of the buttons on the tub control panel. If you have any trouble with it, please message us.

Using the projection system in the living room:
Turn on the projector using the white ACER remote. You can point the projector at the screen - there's an IR remote receiver at the upper-right corner of the screen that sends remote signals to the projector and apple TV.
Lower the projector screen using the remote control on the wall to the left of the windows.
Press “Menu" on the Apple TV remote to wake it up.
When you're done, press “Menu" to get back to the main Apple TV menu, then select Settings, then “Sleep Now". After the Apple TV goes to sleep, turn the projector off by pressing the power button twice on the remote.
Either way, DO NOT leave the projector running while you are not watching it.
The larger remote is used to control the sound volume only. Don't press any other buttons.
The AppleTV and “Volume Only" remotes should be pointed towards the screen. There's a remote control receiver located in the wall next to the top of the projector. You'll see it blink blue when you press any remote button.
If the projector is saying “No Signal" - try pressing the HDMI button on the projector. The Apple TV is connected to the HDMI input on the projector.

Using the kitchen stove:
To light a burner, first press down gently on the silver button below the label corresponding to the burner you wish to light. Then, GENTLY turn the lever below it clockwise to the full-on position. Once the burner is lit, lower the burner by GENLTY turning the knob in the other direction.
Be very careful not to pull on the lever while turning. They will break off easily, necessitating a costly repair.
Better not to use the stovetop griddle “labeled ‘BROILER' or the well burner. Trust us on this one. If you need an extra burner, there's an electric induction burner in the cabinet beneath the cutting board. Most but not all of the cookware will work on this burner.
The stove has three pilot lights: One in the center of the range, one in the well, and one in the oven. In the unlikely event that you smell gas, the pilots may have gone out. In this case, the first step is to shut off the gas using the shut-off valve behind the stove. You can reach the handle by reaching behind the backsplash, between the back of the stove the the backsplash. The valve handle is approximately behind the “Chambers" logo. Turn off the gas supply by rotating the handle clockwise, so the handle is pointing towards the ceiling. Then call us!
If the stove isn't working, the stove pilot may have gone out. Relighting the pilot is easy: Access the pilot burner by lifting up the iron floor of the stove, propping the front of it on one of the bottom stove rack holder. Open the right-side storage compartment and remove the floor shelf completely. Inside you'll see a red button. Press and hold the red button for 10 seconds, then light the pilot light. Keep the button depressed for 10 seconds after the pilot is lit, then release the button slowly. If you have trouble with this no worries - just call us!

Operating the wood stove:
Operating a wood stove is not as simple as a fireplace. If you don't have experience operating a wood stove, we recommend that you do not try. If you do try to light the stove, follow these instructions carefully, or else you risk damaging the stove or our home.
Empty the ash pan by opening the lever on the bottom of the stove, swinging out the pan. You can empty the pan into the pail next to the stove. Make sure to close and latch the ash pan. If the pan isn't completely closed and latched, hot ash can fall onto the floor causing a fire.
Make sure that the flue is OPEN. Facing the stove, the lever on the left side of the stove should be pointing back towards the wall.
Make sure the thermostat is fully OPEN. The thermostat lever on the right side of the stove should be pointing forwards.
Load the stove with several pieces of crumpled up newspaper and a generous amount of kindling.
Put one piece of crumpled-up newspaper in the flue, partially into the chimney. Light this paper before lighting the paper in the stove. This creates an updraft that will help the fire start.
Do not leave the fire burning unattended.

When you depart:
Please strip any beds that you used, and leave the linens and any towels that you used on the floor. This is the only way we know which ones you used!
Please don't leave any food in the kitchen or in the refrigerator.
Please take the garbage out. The garbage cans are stored in a shed in the backyard. Follow the brick path towards the back driveway. The shed is at the end of the brick path on the left. There's a latch on the door, but no lock. The garbage cans are stored behind that door. Please close the latch so the door doesn't swing open. Recycling can be placed in any blue container, either in that garbage shed or in the rear driveway.

Finally: Accidents happen. If anything bad happens, please let us know.

Any questions: Call or text us. Please do not hesitate to ask us anything! It's our pleasure to answer any question, or provide any recommendation for anything you could possibly need.

This house is amazing. I went for a college reunion with friends and it was perfect. The living area was great for a large group and there was plenty of space for 9 of us. They had lots of amenities and thorough instructions for how to use everything. The owner checked in and was prompt with responding to questions. Highly recommend!!!

We really enjoyed our stay! The layout of the house was perfect for our group and the backyard setup was awesome. We were looking to just get away with friends for a low key vacation. Matthew's place delivered on every level. From the open plan family room to the well stocked chef's kitchen, to the picturesque backyard complete with fire pit and fantastic hot tub. As a host, Matthew was quick to respond to any questions we had. We would definitely like to come back next year and will recommend to friends.

Perfect home for a large family. The place was expansive, yet intimate - offering both large gathering spaces and cozy places to relax. We enjoyed the firepit, preparing family dinners and hiking at the beautiful state park just down the street. We were in the area for a wedding, and the three full baths were and added benefit when we were all getting ready. We would definitely stay there again! Thank you to our hosts!

I stayed here with a bunch of friends on a Friday & Saturday night. The house had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. The beds were super comfortable and there was more than enough room for 8 people in the house. We did a lot of cooking, and similar to what a bunch of people have said, the stove/oven is a bit tricky at first, but once you get it, it's totally fine. Sadly, no one used the huge jetted tub in the master bedroom, but the double rain shower in there was so so nice. We also enjoyed the hot tub both nights and appreciated all the directions around the house to help us figure out how to turn things on/off. Communicating with Matthew was a breeze. No matter when I wrote to him, he always responded within a few minutes. A few hours after checking out, we realized that we left 2 bathing suits in the dryer. Matthew was more than generous when agreeing to finish drying the suits and ship them to me free of charge. We really appreciated such a kid gesture. I'd totally recommend this house and amazing super host!
