Great place right on the beach. It is a cabana in a hot climate so some bugs here and there is normal. Check in was very easy and Kate was a very nice host!

Kate's place feels like a fairy tale and the location on the quiet east end of the beach is way preferable to the tourist-frenzied west end. The food is good and healthy, and Kate and Ray are very attentive to their guests!

Cafe Maya is a great place to stay as long as you're not precious. The room isn't quite as private as we thought it would be. It is adjacent to another room. The wall that separates the two rooms doesn't reach the full height of the ceiling, meaning you can hear everything going on next door. Luckily for us we made friends with our neighbours and we didn't feel too awkward but, if you're looking for complete privacy, you might want to take that into consideration. To be really honest, I'm not sure the room is accurately represented by the pictures. The bathroom is very basic, which is absolutely fine if you're ok with that. Ours had quite a few cockroaches in it. The room has a fan which is very much needed!! We stayed in August and it was incredibly hot!!! Again, totally fine if you know what to expect. Having said all of that, Cafe Maya is in a really great location. You're literally right on the beach and the view from the balcony is incredible. Sitting in a hammock, reading a book as the waves crash next to you is a lovely way to spend a day! All you have to do is walk along the beach and you find restaurants and bars. If you want a shop, it's along the road. Everything is really compact in Zipolite and Kate's place is a really good base. Mazunte is just a quick cab ride away too. Kate was helpful during our stay. When my girlfriend was ill with heat exhaustion, Kate helped us with getting some rehydration drinks from the shop. She also booked us a cab on our last day, which was very kind. If you're not precious and you're looking for a basic, well-located spot on a lovely beach, head to Cafe Maya.

Response from Kate:
OK so to begin, I dont know if I gave Christopher a 5 star communication rating, but I will be calling Airbnb to see if I can adjust that, because there are things here that if he would have told me to my face I could go up to the room and check, especially the cockroach and wifi incidents. As for the cockroach, we periodically fumigate so I guess its time. The bungalow roof is natural palm and we DO LIVE IN THE TROPICS, so it is a very natural thing. We fumigate every 6 - 8 months so we are checking on stepping that up. The wifi issue was an instant fix. I just reset the wifi extender and voila! Too bad Christopher didnt THINK of telling me! As for the privacy issue, we have had it on the list of things to do, to wall up our palapa. I have posted a new photo in the bungalow listing that says upper privacy wall in palapa. so that eliminates being able to hear the people in my other bungalow, WHICH I WILL ALSO BE LISTING ON AIRBNB, because i have two identical bungalows, one with cream colored shower tile, one with brown shower tile. Ok Christoper so I will be checking into changing the 5star communication rating i have you to a 0 star rating, because we spoke and hung out every day and you could not have the courtesy to tell me any of this in person!

La Casa Maya is a beautiful place to stay. It is right on the ocean, and sitting on the deck in the hammock overlooking the ocean is a lovely way to pass the day. Accommodations are clean and basic, you have everything you need for a stay at the beach. Kate is a very gracious host. She was very communicative and helpful and gave us lots of recommendations and tips for where to go and eat in Zippolite and in the surrounding bays. All in all a very peaceful place to pass a week.

Very romantic house right at ocean front, hosted by Kate and her perfect helpers. The amenities are basic, but everything works fine and the price is affordable. The home-made breakfast and food is really good. The beach is huge, has a soft entry and respectable waves, allows privacy and long walks. Lots of good restaurants within 10-15 minutes car ride. - If you are looking for a beach hut in Oaxaca, this is where you should go.

We stayed on the top floor with AMAZING view over the ocean - highly recommend. Kate's cafe is the only place on the beach to serve sushi and her food is very good. Location is perfect combination of being a short walk down the beach from everything else but secluded enough not to be bothered by noise from other places.
