  • A lovely big space with 2 bedrooms, 2 shower bathrooms, great kitchen and lounge facilities, and all very clean and comfortable. The host was very helpful when we couldn't get the tv or heating to work - which was ultimately down to our stupidity! Would not hesitate to recommend Blue Heron Bungalows.

  • We were very comfortable in our bungalow - had everything we could hope for--spacious, clean, great location, wifi and tv both worked without a hitch. Our hosts even spared me their personal blender upon request. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Susan's bungalow is a very nice place to stay at if in Kaikoura. Spacious, clean and equipped with all you might need when away from home, including laundry facilities. Located on a quiet street. You can take a nice stroll along the beach to get to places to eat.

  • Lovely quiet spot just off the sea front within walking distance of the town centre. Spacious and clean with everything you need. Billy was very helpful with suggestions for local walks and things to do.

  • We were four peoples staying at the Blue Heron bungalow and we really appreciate our stay of five days. It was clean. We had lots of space. We used the Wi-Fi without problem. We would stay longer if we could. We highly recommend Blue Heron Bungalows and we would return there if ever we come back again at Kaikoura.

  • We had a pleasant time in their house. They have a big garden with flowers, fruits and other plants. It is a very private place to stay, we enjoyed cooking there. It is only one minute from the house to the beach. We are pretty sure you will love this house for your holiday!

  • Everything you could need in a well organised space. Good location and helpful owners.

  • We had a pleasant stay at the Blue Heron! Billy gave us a warm welcome and some tips on where to eat.

Minor quibbles - depending on one's definition of a short walk, the town centre is not exactly that near. It is about 2km away so perhaps a leisurely 20-30 minutes walk away. There were some missing lightbulbs within the bungalow as well. The weather was ok then but if it is too warm or too cold, you may want to note that the air conditioner/heater unit is located only in front of the kitchenette, and not in the room.

But again, those are minor things. Overall, a pleasant stay in a well equipped, clean place that is easy to call home.

  • What a beautiful, modern, spacious, bungalow with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, dining, 1. 5 bath, and a laundry, all beautifully appointed. The porch runs the length of the bungalow, and a wonderful spot to eat breakfast and watch the sunrise. You can see and hear the ocean, but a block off the main drag. Blue Heron it is the most quiet, private, spotless, comfortable place of the 6 we stayed in NZ. Susie and Billy have a lovely garden, and they graciously share their fruits and veggies. They know everything about the area, so be sure to ask questions. You won't find a better deal and such a beautiful accommodation in Kaikoura. It is about a 10 minute walk from the center of town, perfect. We could happily live in the bungalow.

About
Billy, my Kiwi husband, and I (originally from Portland, OR) have lived in Kaikoura since 2001. Ten years earlier on a NZ cycling trip, we decided Kaikoura should eventually be our home. In the past 30 years we've lived and worked in W. Africa, the U.S., the Middle East, Singapore, Indonesia, Hungary, Austria, Spain and NZ. We still enjoy traveling as much as possible, usually by bicycle. However, Kaikoura has indeed become our home and we'd love to help you enjoy it.
